I understand that. That's why I prefer it (it feels more accurate in practice). Where is the digital control? is it in the fader housing and still outputing a control signal for the motor, or is it in the motor?

From memory (I've only worked on 1years ago) the fader has values that are way out compared to the mk2 3d and mk5 faders. I think physically they are quite different too. I could be wrong though as I said it been a while since I was arms deep in a m5g.

I only had an M5G briefly but if I remember correctly it seemed to be on the PCB for the M5G fader- but I vaguely remember the main PCB looking different too and had extra headers and the fader PCB having some extra wires that went into the main board. But really though it's not even worth thinking about since the PCB and fader housing is so different it won't fit on a normal MK2 chassis without some serious modding which would not be worth attempting even if you could hook one up to a MK2 board (which I really don't think you can).

edit: prob not going to happen

I found some schematics on an audiophile forum of the m5g and it looks different, but if I had to keep reading about them talking about how to remove all the LEDs from the m5g since each one "introduces a small amount of noise" to the signal that "noticeably reduced audio quality" I might break something.

That's interesting - and I suppose it's snipping the orange wire and resistor that disables those tracks (and the quartz lock).

I had the mod done in my m2ks (along with removing the center detent) and the guy who did it said it was a pretty straightforward mod. And I have to say, before the mod I was one of the people who didn't think it mattered; I always worked around the center detent and it was fine, but it is far better mixing without it there. On top of that I had him disable the quartz lock autocorrection and the difference is very noticeable when mixing. If you can do these mods yourself or have someone do them, I highly recommend it (and that pretty much makes your deck an Mk3; you lose the button that takes you to zero but I hate that button myself anyway).

I absolutely HATE mixing around the zero mark. It is COMPLETELY inaccurate. I always change the pitch of BOTH records when this happens just so I can mix away from the zero mark.

I can't WAIT to remove the click and quartz lock.

Do it mate! You'll be stoked with your first set after the mods are done. I just wish more of the tt's in clubs would service their tt's yet alone doing the quartz mod.

Yeah…I've gotten users banned from a few of those for trying to sell this in their buy/sell sections:
