google all you like.... you said the magic words, "prepared correctly", if you fuck up your console can get banned, stick a generic hard drive in and boot and see what happens.
And ... fanboy what ? Out of my arse ?, eh nope, my GF worked in Xbox support and it was pretty usual to have consoles banned for upgrades by individuals who don't know better.
Anyhow back on topic - the MS tablet thingy could be interesting, depends on how well windows8 works on a tablet-like machine and if other manufacturers are ahead of the game by the time it gets released - assuming windows 8 is coming out in the 4th quarter, we might be as far as 9 months away from seeing it in the wild.
Anti-climax much.
Oh and FYI - a hard drive is not just a hard drive...An iMac's hard drive for example has Apple embedded code in the firmware which prevents the fans running properly - replacing with a generic drive causes the fans to spin up to high continually.
Just google it .. (you seem to know how) or click here

Firstly JesC said that had to buy MS branded HDs and headsets, I corrected him on that then you said that you could get banned from Xbox live for not buying an non xbox HD, obviously when you buy a hd you have to format it for use on your system, whatever your system, you don't just stick stuff in and hope for the best do you? No, you read the instructions.
Goes back to what I was saying about not listening to fanboys about technical stuff. You lot are hilarious, I especially loved the bloke a couple of pages back saying that it was rubbish because it was flat. Stop spreading FUD about platforms you've decided you don't like.

You are the one coming off as a fanboi dude, and what platforms are you even talking about LOL, you seem to just be flaming everybody for the sake of it ....time of the month maybe ?
The issue is not "the platform" or the OS or the Company involved. Its the execution, the design thought behind them and the intended market segment, of which this particular tablet with its variations seems to want to be a jack-of-all-trades and not quite a master of anything.
Going back to your flat comment:
Ipad/galaxy etc... are designed as a tablets to be held in your hand during use OR be used with the designed keyboard for occasions where you might want to type something lengthily. The surface tablet on the other hand appears to be designed for (wait for it)..... a surface. This negates the need for a tablet in the first place (verging on ultra book territory). So the completely flat Ipad is absolutely fine, but the completely flat Surface isn't?
Don't get me wrong, I don't give a fuck about tablets but you fanbois sure are funny.
I don't have a tablet, and have not seen the need for one - this may open up new doors or close them forever, depending how well it handles day to day tasks. and only time will tell if this will change the laptop/tablet market.
The Fact is - we don't have any real-world facts yet to base anything technical on (like how well traktor or serato will run, or IF they will even run).
Other manufacturers DO on occasions do this - HP used to do it at one point, I believe Dell did as well.Sorry, I meant outside of Apple a hd is just an hd. No one else apart from Apple does this. God they're bastards aren't they?
