I got rid of the laptop aswell, packed the X1 back inside its box and returned to the "roots" with CDJs.
I kinda miss some of traktor's features (easy and perfect loops for instance) because my CDJs (350) suck at it. I don't always make a perfect loop in "manual" mode, an the ones in "automatic" mode are pretty broken.

I just wish i could afford a pair of 2k right now, it'd be heaven, best of both worlds.

People talking about going old school by using CDJs makes me feel really old. I remember when spinning with CDs was considered blasphemy.

Some of my favorite clubs have had the DJ booth literally 15 feet above the crowd, so you really couldn't even see what was going on up there. You just knew when different people were on because of their style, and the beats were solid. It's a difference of being there to enjoy the music, or having the DJ be the center of attention. I much prefer it when the DJ isn't the center of attention, and is just making the entire night experience awesome. And honestly, at that point, it doesn't matter a rat about what someone is using as long as it sounds good.

I don't understand why you feel DJ-ing on Traktor would be any different then DJ-ing on CDJ's. I never liked the CDJ's myself and am truly devoted to vinyls, but when it comes to DJ-ing nowadays I use my NS6. I never use the effect, because I find that they make the music sound worse. I just use the NS6 in the same type of DJ flow that I used to do when using two turntables. The only difference is that I still use the turntable and use two channels of the NS6 for digital DJ-ing. Sometimes if I'm lazy I Sync, sometimes if I'm trying to train my beat matching skills I just use the NS6 pitch faders, but as said I don't DJ differently on a laptop then on the NS6.

i can relate to that. when i first got my cjd 100s my "dj" (ex) friend told me that cds sound awful compared to vinyl and that i was cheating by using them and beatport. when serato and traktor came out i thought he was going to have an aneurysm since he was so worked up about it, constantly going on and on about how all the "serato jokers" were ruining his life. i'm pretty sure that him not being able to beat match after 10+ years of spinning mainly hard dance/trance trainwreck after trainwreck may have had a little to do with all the serato jokers stealing his gigs. that's just my thoughts though...he surely doesn't think so.

I didn't mean to imply its the performance aspect that's the cool part to watch. I hate dancing DJ's and the midi fighter 3D. But as turntabalists of yesteryear had their records all in a row to execute cool routines the modern controller based DJ can have a battle playlist, remix deck(s), instant grat maps, and more at their fingertips. It's going to come as second nature to be able to utilize all this on the fly and make for what could be a very bad ass set. Sure peeps get carried away with fx, but I think these remix decks are going to open up a whole be can of worms. 64 one shots that you've got memorized. Movie quotes and more that you can keep jumping back to. Or better yet incorporate sections of the movie throughout the night. Forward thinking.

Basically with Traktor you could duplicate any of Girl Talk's last three albums LIVE!

    Couldn't agree more.

Personally I had the chance to frequent more times than I can remember, the Hacienda in Manchester back in the day ar Kid.
The DJ booth was well above the crowd, you could just see the upper torso of the DJ at a push.
The emphasis was on the dance floor and enjoying yourselves. I have seen far too many videos recently of people just facing the DJ and holding up an iPhone to record it.
I thought clubbing was going out to have a good time not being an amateur social documentary maker.

I completely agree, it should be about the music not the performance. Now all the big festivals you see emphasize the performance aspect and not the music. The EDM scene should be about the music. We are not a much of guys making music in front of people.

I guess I see it as 2 different types of DJs, the ones you go to because you enjoy the music and their style, the other type you go to specifically see the technical performance they are doing i.e Ean Golden. Though I personally think the technical side of DJing isn't always sonically pleasing. Thats just my taste though.

That's why I want to ditch my laptop. To simplify and be more in tune with the music.
