I think the issue virtually everyone has with iPad's for DJ'ing or live performance is the lack of physical knobs and faders.... something you can touch and feel and know it will respond without thinking about it.
No-one likes looking at a DJ who's more concentrated on hitting the right area of a flat glass object in exactly the right spot than one who can do a half jesus pose as he's twisting a filter knob while looking you right in the eye with a cocky grin.
For those reasons I reckon few people are willing to adopt to an iPad only setup. The hardware currently does not exist to make it a realistic proposition unless you have 2 pads running completely unlinked separate applications and going though a separate mixer as well so you can knob jockey to your hearts content.
No Doubt there will be a new wave of iPad controllers sooner than later I hope which can utilize the hardware of an iPad coupled with a decent controller and software. Djay is a freaking awesome lil piece of software which gives almost (if not more) as many options as using a CDJ... mix vibes have their app as well which is equally exciting, but like i said .. first wave.
Numark have made inroads to utilizing iPads properly it with their Idj Live... and their new pro model looks like it
could have been an absolute game changer
if they added faders instead of rotaries and a more "standard" EQ layout(instead they matched the non-standard layout of the software
I felt like screaming
"keep it normal and everyone will want one". instead they fucked with the engomics that DJ's are used to, and for that reason I think it will fail miserably unless they make serious design changes before release, however they are on the right track IMHO and single versions of this that could be linked or build on the motorized platter of the V7 and they would be unreal and
almost suitable for installation if they gave a CD option and USB.
