I'm looking in to the new macbook air, and well the ultra light part seems perfect for portable DJing... and i know you get "more" with the macbook pro 13 inch, but stuff like 8gig ram seems overkill for traktor pro and DJing...
That's why for me personally the macbook air is so compelling against the macbook pro 13". But i just don't know if the macbook air is powerfull enough to use as a portable Traktor notebook together with the VCI100se and an external soundcard...
always been into windows, but lately i'm more and more drawn to try out a macdon't know if that's a good thing... and the macbook air seems like a perfect testing candidate

Keep in mind that the 8gig of ram is overkill now. But two or three years from now, when TPro is on a higher version, and you've started implementing more software (maybe moving up to Ableton Live and some VSTs) suddenly that 8gig of RAM is kind of necessary, whereas the macbook air still only has one (or two?) USB ports, completely limiting you.
The Air is crap. Really it is. Its not even light weight if you compare it with PC's that pack tons more ports in the same size (well maybe slightly thicker, but we are taking a few milimeters here). If money is even the slightest concern, then the Air is an absolute waste of money. If you really need an ultra small laptop with a 13" screen, get a PC. If you cannot live without OSX, you put Hackintosh in there (its not clear yet how illegal that really is here in Europe).
Traktor Pro 2.5.0, Mixxx 1.9.1, Massive, Ableton Live 8
MBP 15" 8GB RAM OS 10.7.4, Audio Kontrol 1, Audio 2 DJ, Sennheiser HD-25 II
DJTT VCI-100SE Arcade, Akai LDP8, M-Audio Pro Keystation 88, Novation Launchpad, iTM DJ

I just dont think the Air is a sensible machine for gigging. No matter how careful you are the laptop will get knocked about a bit. Those things are too thin for gigging.
Hackintosh legal ??? Is it ? Im genuinely asking . Ive no knowledge. Whats the dealio.
If its illegal in US (?) then will it not be in EU as well ? Like i say im asking not assuming>
hackintosh are not legal, OSx is modified to run on a non-apple machine (Violator of EULA), dont want to go off topic, if you guys want to talk about it, i would say start a new thread.
I was looking at the new MBP 13" today. Just wondering if anyone else is using one for DJ'ing and how they feel about only having 13" to see traktor (or anything else on).. is it hard? My other reason for buying my first mac is i want to use logic and so i would probably get the 24" cinema display and connect the 13" MBP to it.. But when looking at the apple site and trying to configure the 13". there is no upgrade option to a 7200rpm HD???? on 5400 all the way. Is it possible to stick a 7200 HD in there? So my choices are the 15" (better screen size in the club) or the 13" and a 24" cinema display....
Any advice??
If it were my money and I were setting up a new system for gigging, I would use:
15" MBP with either an aftermarket SSD or a bootable OS image on an SDHC card
4-slot Drobo with 4 drives in the device, and 4 drives with identical contents sitting at home
A DJ carrying around all his high-value data is basically a disaster-recovery scenario waiting to happen any number of ways. Loss by lost luggage; loss by theft; loss by errant beer; loss by DJ partying like a rockstar...

Also, an Apple-branded display is not worth your money; and definitely not to bring into a club. It's shameful enough to have that goddamned glowing Apple up in everyone's grill; no need for a second one. Get a cheap 1900x1200 24-incher from newegg or something.
