We once handed out a tray of strong homebrew vodka jellies to the ladies in the crowd much to the bars' disgust lol.

" I’m the Dude, so that’s what you call me. That or, uh His Dudeness, or uh Duder, or El Duderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing. "
I do things in a "more conventional", compared to this example, it is a fun trick but not for every crowd, as a matter of fact if I did that in certain places I am sure I would not get booked again. But what usually works for me is just playing good tracks mate (according to your crowd and place), when you play something that people really like, they will look at you and celebrate possibly
just try to make contact with the crowd and keep the flow going. Look like you are enjoying yourself as much as the crowd, that way you create more involvement with the dancefloor and get more considered. They will want more good tracks... Also if volume is too low people loose the attention, so make sure to have a good volume, without going to the unpleasent side. Untill now it has worked for me
haha, nice idea, but in austria guitar hero isn't that big success... so if i'd use the controller i'd probably look like some wannabe-dj trying to pose with some toy (i guess the crowd wouldn't notice that i'd be actually djing with it)
care to send your hype man over to austria? i'd need such a guy for a couple of gigs
i'm totally with you on that, that's what i'm always trying to do, but it rarely helps... there are always a couple of guys talking to me while i'm djing telling me that they like what i do, but most of the crowd doesn't care about me (at least that's the feeling i have)... maybe it just takes a little more time to be remembered by the guests... just wanted to hear all your little dirty tricks to get the crowd to remember you faster![]()

...and still haven't got the heart to get rid of my Turntables, Mixer and my VinylsReggae, Ragga, Dancehall, Chill Out, Dubstep, Breaks, Drum & Bass
It's like that locally for me too.
I go to my fave club for my fave genre and at the end of a night there is but a handful of people that really say to the dj, that was awesome. Most people go there, get drunk/off their tits and dance, as long as its EDM they dont care.
as long as there is people dancing all night thats what matters i guess.
I'm sure the dj's ive spoken to at the end of their sets appreciate that there are some chin strokers in the audience analysing everything they've done and being extremely satisfied with the time they've spent listening and stomping to it
I don't do pro gigs but one of my favourite things is to drop an epic track that has silence after a breakdown before a bassdrop
pause it in the silence and act like its broken
once you get some attention hit play
BAM!
Make them realise you're doing something, then deliver something that sounds awesome once you've distracted them for long enough.

Guy has what looks like made an edit of a track where he simulates the cdjs breaking down.
He then pretends to start it like starting an engine (pretend key in cdj turning) has engine sound effects on edit. but still wont start!
Eventually upturns bottle of beer to simulate filling the cdj with petreol or go go juice of some kind (with sound effects again).
Trys to start again with big imaginary key.
Cdj fires and then the music starts again!
Hope that makes sense
