@Octagon- That's pretty cool. That's all I wanted them for, for fun.

I did Lol. coffee on my keyboard an all. Anyway, Otacon, i believe you saw the Ravetrooper pic? Im all for Mask's.
With all due respect to OP and Otacon,
NO.
HELL NO.
^ hell yeah, i thought the ravetrooper thing was tight. and @MyUsername, its all good man, we've all got different tastes. Atleast you're not a dick about it![]()
If you don't have haters, you're not doing it right
No, you're absolutely right. If someone does something, you have the right to laugh at them.
Regardless of the fact that Otacon is out there playing gigs and all I've seen you do on the forums is bash everyones views that don't agree with yours. Now it's my turn to laugh at you. You're pathetic.
Of course it depends on the scene you are in, but if you are playing to the general public, a majority of people are going to like stuff like that.
I started and sold a marketing firm so that's where my background is, and if a DJ came to me as a client I would say:
1) You play the same songs as everyone else
2) You play the same equipment as everyone else.
3) You play the same clubs as everyone else.
My advice: You need some gimmick to set yourself apart.
Honestly, if you are a DJ and hoping to become huge just based on your skills, good luck, you might as well play the lottery. There are tons of talented musicians playing in their parent's basement while Lady Gaga is walking around in a meat dress making millions cranking out garbage music.
Good marketing beats a good product any day. If two DJs play a club and their skills are similar, the crowd will remember the mask guy.
That doesn't mean you have to have a bad product if you happen to have a gimmick. If you have the skills and a gimmick, now the deck is stacked in your favor.
I'm not saying everyone should wear a mask, but since I recently got into DJ'ing I am realizing that people don't know the difference between promotion and marketing. Promoting is handing out flyers and getting gigs, the same way a plumber would find jobs. Marketing is honing your image and setting yourself apart, this is the artistic part and the part where you can be creative.
Shit liek this is why everyone is talking about the "death of DJing".
DJing isn't supposed to be about promotion or marketing. The types of DJs you're talking about don't get famous because they're not supposed to get famous. Stupid shit like light up masks won't help that and SHOULDN'T help that. DJs should gain fame based on their performance ability. People who "play tracks" as you said it, should NEVER get famous, and basically never do. DJs get famous based on performance technique, which you CAN tell the difference between, or they get famous as PRODUCERS. Deadmau5 and Daft Punk would have NEVER gone anywhere even with their gimmicks if they weren't good PRODUCERS, not DJs.
Trying to use gimmicks to get famous as a DJ is both pathetic and more or less futile. Think of all of the *famous* DJs you know of who AREN'T producers. Can you name a single one that wears a mask?
