I do have a a 17" MBP/SSD for work use but I would never take that one out for gigs due to the bulky size. For my work with a controller even a MacBook Air would be fine as I only look at the screen for waveforms and file browsing.
if you think the 17" MBP is bulky, you should try the XPS ... I gig with that and it's a heavy monster ...most people call it a desktop replacement.

Yes sorry I made a small error in the pricing, I was using the European portal and converting the price. I'm not sure if Europe can get free shipping from the states, so that would need to be factored in ..

You should look at the local European prices, as I don't know many purchasing Macs from USA back to Europe. And then take into account taxes and whatever is added in Europe. And looking at the OP it is most likely he is USA based so I don't even know the relevance of quoting European prices in this case.

I'm in Europe, that's why I quoted their prices, but this is a US forum ..hence the conversion. Simple error. but still VERY EXPENSIVE, and still a little underspecified when you compare with windows laptops. I've got 3.5Gb DDR5 graphics and mines 18month old.

BTW, my XPS runs OSX10.7.4 perfectly .... much faster than my mates MBP ....something to think about

Lolwut? I just bought a Retina, $2200 with the student discount, running a 2.3 i7, 16gb RAM, an SSD, and a hot-swapping discrete GT 650, with a 2880x1800 screen, all in under an inch thick of solid aluminum. It replaced my 1st gen MBP, which was going 7 years straight with no repairs or upgrades. Looking at the XPS 14's, the closest they get preloaded comes in at $2000, with half the RAM, a GT 630 non-Kepler, and a 14" "HD" 900v screen.

Combine that with the fact that most OEM's still use fucking barrel plugs for power, and the "Macs r overpriced and dont last long lol" argument pretty much disintegrates. Yeah, great, you got a plastic box from Dell with a 1.8 dual i7 and a terradrive inside and a tiny TV attached for $600, it doesnt really compare.

If the display is in "HD" with a 1440x900 resolution, youre actually at a lower pixel count than the average 42" HDTV. Hence it being a very small TV. I remember my previous laptop having a cutting edge 1440x900 res.... 7 years ago.

My Display port is the same as yours ... I have almost 4 times the memory allowing a far greater screen size than yours ... and my default "tiny TV" screen is 1080p with nvidia 3D, not 900p. When I connect my XPS upto the Apple 30" in the main room, it looks and acts just the same as a Mac .... but so much cheaper ..that money went on things adults need to pay for, mortgage, the wife's shoe collection, car insurance..................

BTW is a fucking barrel the same as a normal barrel ?

This thread is going into one of those absolutely pointless arguments about Mac V PC. I'm pretty certain those threads are now barred from this forum, they are never resolved.

Maybe it's time the thread is locked.
