Haha, so true. In DnB it's been staple for a mix for as long as I listen to the genre. At first I reaaaaaaally hated it. But since I started spinning tunes myself I really started appreciating them. Some bangers just need to get a proper listen from the intro on. But I'm pretty sure this happens more in some of the more 'intense' genres.

Digging the Bonobo Boiler set someone dropped here before, respect.

wait guys... what exactly is a boiler room set? Sorry for the ignorance. I started in the hip hop scene and now play a lot of house and "EDM" music. And I've never seen this phenomenon. I tried google to no avail.

DJ Hype, Hype, gimme the funk, gimme the funk.....

Rewinds have been part and parcel of the hardcore/jungle/D&B scene since the early 90's and UKG (as TCMuc said), nothing new. Can be very effective. Can be DJ or MC instigated, usually with some form of crowd interaction (as mentioned futher up thread), you sort of know which tracks are going to get a rewind.

Anyway shameless self promotion, starting a brand new show (This Is Our House) on Nu-Rave Radio.com this evening 6-8PM (UK) playing Soulful/Deep/Jackin House and Garage along with some old school/classic house/garage and the odd old school rave/hardcore/D&B tune. Nu-Rave Radio available on line and via Tunein app on iOS/Android etc.

The reason for spin backs is simple - dubplates.

The crowd WANTS to hear a new tune from the beginning.

Today, with EVERY DJ able to create their own edits (effectively, dubplates - something that no-one else has), spin backs (in certain situations, dare I say, GENRES) hold a special relevance.

    I fuckin' love 'em.

i can see others points about using it as a mix out to drop another track, but for the sake of just rewinding it just sounds weird to me.
i think thats one of bonobos label mates, look at how nuts he goes when that eliphino track drops again. shit rewind worth it right there haha.

I'm a big fan of pulling tunes back if they go off, i'm not really a huge fan of going back to the start though, i think you go back to the start of the build up and skip the intro, as in that bonobo rewind. great timing on it, even though it sounds crap when he is actually spinning it back.

I love rewinds, especially when some nice UKG is being played. The Skream b2b Disclosure boiler room set comes to mind.

I pulled an awful awful rewind the other week at a gig, the crowd went nuts when i played Mercy by Joy O & Boddika, so I rewound it forgetting it has a really, really long intro. Kinda killed the vibe a bit.

Pulled a massive reload on Neighbourhood by Zed Bias though, I had a cue point set for it so it skipped about 45 seconds of the intro, went back to it, hyped the vibe right up!

Oh gaaad. Neighbourhood kills it everytime.

Mr DJ give me that reload.

Nothing gets the crowd more excited than a well time reload.
