There's nothing intrinsically wrong with either platform, don't drink the koolaid OP, use your head.

I haven't had to tweak a driver or do anything with antivirus or anything since Win 7 either. Security Essentials runs all the time. Sarasin, you're spreading old and irrelevant FUD.

Maybe mate....maybe. But thats my opinion...not fact.

Its how I see it and that is from my experience.

I don't need to make this decision anymore, as I have found what works for me and have seen the pains my mates have with their Win machines. I know that at work, Windows is what will sort me out and is where I know all the products i need for my job. The Mac is for my music and I don't mess about with it. Simple.

I am not saying one is better than the other, I am saying it depends on the person. What tech level they are at and what they want from the device.

Also, you can clearly see that people are having issues with Windows. Maybe you are not, but thats you....not them. You have indicated that you are very tech savvy and thus don't find it difficult to sort out any issues that may arise and can set it correctly and know what it actually means when you change a setting. Not everyone is at that savvy and can not control their machines the way you are able.

This is where my point comes in. If you are completely new to computers....you will not have a clue how to make any settings nor resolve any issues. There is none of that with a Mac, I have found and thus why I say it is the easiest and safest way to go. Again...in my opinion.

It also does not mean much when you say that the above is all BS when you have so many complaining about it.
If no one was bitching, then there would be no case.

Now if you came from a Vinyl setup (totally analog) and then jumped onto a Digital Setup (lots of old school DJ's are having to deal with this), would you have known to try that, to get it working?

For someone that is non technical (never really used a PC etc), they will be frustrated by the time they are able to actually get it working for them.

I guess the same could be said if they got a Mac but from my experience and my mates experiences, I stand by my statement that it would be better for this said person to get a Mac and avoid all the Windows caveats.

Why do you see the Pro's using Mac's? Not cuz they can afford it, its because they know it is a workhorse. Straight up...tried and tested.

Not saying you can't be a pro on a Win Laptop...

But you only have to go to the Native Instruments forums to see people having all kinds of issues with Macs as well as with Windows-based machines. It's just cherry picking in order to try and prove a point that is largely false.

Agreed, they are both not perfect. They both have issues.

My point is that for someone with little or no computer knowledge, a Mac would serve him better.

    IMHO.

i have a pc, HP something or other. dont have many problems, but as im not a techy person, when something does go wrong i get ssooo frustrated. and usually whenever it does i end up waasting hours trying to resolve the problem.

this is definatly a hatred of mine. i waste my time so much stupid shit at work, that when i get home, i dont want to waste the precious hours i have fixing a computer that should work

I'm a Windows to Mac convert..

Grew up using Windows, knew it quite well but little things in Windows just irritated me such as boot up and shut down time, finding ways around menus, how sometimes quite little things were actually a chore, some things that i wanted connected with each other was a chore to get going.

BUT Windows did do me great, Didn't crash on me too much, organising stuff was quite simple, installing, uninstalling even though it was a long process it made sense to me.

Switched to Mac once i started doing Graphic Design at College..

Felt like i had been using it for years, organising stuff was quite good compared to windows, doing certain things was much easier, it was more streamlined trying to connect certain things (calandars and contacts to emails for example). Boot up and shut down certainly won it for me and the fact that my any of my Macs (Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac) have NEVER crashed on me (touch wood).

Negatives towards Mac though is, even though uninstalling programmes are a simple drag and drop, i just don't trust it. I prefer Windows method (call me crazy). Installing programmes always confuses me also. But these are things i'm getting used too.

I tend to run Ableton with a heck load of VST's on my Macbook Pro (15") and use it for everything (it's my workhorse) and it has NEVER crashed on me. Even though i'v only used Traktor out once, i feel comfortable that it will never crap out on me mid set (even in my bedroom).

Video editing and photo etc, as someone mentioned is quite funny because yes my old 15" Advent laptop had a better graphics card and soundcard than my Macbook and Macbook Pro but my Advent could never, ever run Traktor, Torq, Ableton or Photoshop without wanting to shat itself. This is another reason for my change over.

My conclusion - I don't mind Windows, but i am now and have been a total Apple nerd for near 6 years and can't ever see myself going back.

Sorry if a little off topic, he just wanted to know certain things and i hope i answered

I'm a little pissed that macbook pros cap out at 4 cores. I want a laptop that not only DJs well, but also acts as a desktop replacement. I love the OS, it's great and all - but they should take it up a notch.

I'm glad this generated so much feedback but lets try to stay on topic. I'm looking for the things you don't like about systems you have personally used for DJ purposes. I don't really care what you like or don't like at work and that's probably traced back to IT anyway. If you hated your old system and love your new one, elaborate a little rather than just saying that one sucked and this one is sooo awesome. Don't we all think our new toy is awesome?

I wasn't thrilled with my Dell M90 when I used it for DJ purposes. It dropped out on me once or twice for a second or two and I had some driver compatibility issues with my S4... but none with the Audio 8. It also had an issue with heat. But I had had it since high school and used it a lot.

I can't recommend that particular laptop. However, the Precision M6400 that I had recently ran it like a dream. There are certain models that seem to consistently be trouble-free with DJ software... The MacBook Pro being just one of them

PC's bad reputation usually comes from the cheap, consumer grade notebooks that are used for day-to-day purposes as well as for performance. Regardless, you should always have two notebooks. A friend of mine had his performance at a bar ruined because his $2000 MBP with a solid state drive crapped out on him mid-set.
