Strangeman, if you ever do the Livid Brain Jr. lmk! I'm thinking about doing it as well just for fun. Love little projects like these.

Yep! The way I'm using it though, I'll be using Traktor in external mode and have it go Traktor>USB>Audio 10>Decks 1-4 via RCA>Mixer>Main Out.

And why is that? Are you sure you know what "TSP certified" means? I'd certainly recommend having an A4/6/8/10 at hand for playing out, but setting it up at home like you propose does not make much sense

How else would I hook it up? I have no Time Codes or CDJs running HID. I use X1's for transport, MidiFighter Pros for Effects, and MF3Ds for Remix Decks.

Why donīt check out the Rane MP 25 or MP 26? One of them can also be an option for you!

Eh, not a big fan. I still want to know how to run a DJM-900NXS on Traktor Pro 2 without a sound card using only controllers!

The 900 NXS has a built in soundcard, so absolutely no need for you to get an external one. You just route Traktor to output over USB to the 900, and set up the channels appropriately.

    Easy.

Anyway, the best 4 channel MIDI mixer is the DB4, not the 900.
Technics 1210 mk2's, Pioneer CDJ 500, Allen & Heath DB4, NI F1's (x2), Reloop Contour Controller Edition, Sennheiser HD25 1-II or Allen & Heath XD2-53's depending on my mood...

Doesn't that card only work for Traktor Scratch with Timecodes?

A soundcard is a soundcard when it comes to non-scratch soundcards. Well, until you get to quality issues.

    From Pioneer about the 900

Equipped with a USB sound card*1 that can simultaneously input and output stereo sound from 4 input and 4 output terminals. The sound card supports signal processing at a high resolution of 24 bit/96 kHz and can input and output each audio signals without degrading quality. Furthermore, the setting utility tool*2 for PCs makes it possible to change the output signal path from the mixer to accommodate various situations, including DJing, track recording, and other work. Furthermore, smooth transitions between DJs are possible thanks to the USB ports installed on the unit’s top surface.
From Allen & Heath about DB4:

    Integral Soundcard
A built-in, high quality (24-bit / 96kHz), multi-channel, fully patchable USB2 soundcard allows replay and recording from audio software for 4 stereo sends and 4 stereo returns.
    But ALSO:

    MIDI control
All controls (except Mic and Phones level) send MIDI data and the mixer can double up as a MIDI controller via the MIDI shift button, allowing the Loop and FX selection controls to send MIDI data without changing the mixer settings.
i.e. You can use the FX and Loop section as a midi controller on its own, while still using it as a proper 4 channel mixer. Mix Architekt's DB4 tsi allows you to control 4 Traktor decks straight from the mixer, so no need for controllers if you dont want them.

The DB4 can also change input / output routing of the sound card straight from the unit, rather than having to connect to a PC and use the utility tool.

    Awesome indeed.

I did look at the DJM900 NXS before forking out for my DB4, but it just didn't offer enough of an upgrade over my DJM 800 to warrant the extra cost involved.

The DB4 on the other hand, offers everything I was looking for in a mixer. If its good enough for Pete Tong, Sasha, John Digweed etc... it will surely be good enough for me.

Got my DJM900 for about 25% cheaper than the DB4 and it can send MIDI data from all controls too!

And unlike the DB4, it actually has various inputs to choose from! I don't see why you need routing settings if you only have 4 inputs..

Integrated Traktor Scratch sound card is a nice plus
