I agree, when it comes to 'House' and all its various subgenres, it's difficult to look beyond Traxsource - they're spot on pretty much all the time I find. As a mainly Soulful/Deep House DJ, it's the place to go to first.

I don't know why the Beatport genre system is just now getting such a bad rap. It's beenbad for awhile. I mean, moombahton is labeled as electro house in the genre tag system. It doesn't help that within the electronic music sphere, new genres are being born as fast as producers can make music. Genre tagging on Beatport should be the least of anyone's concerns. Digging for old and new tracks to fill the dance floor is what that site should be getting traffic for.

I do, as I don't want to aimlessly search through a ton of genres I have no interest in. I'd rather be able to narrow it down in one, and have the ones inside of it be correct.

Let's say you are a Trance producer, but Trance is "not in style" these days.

You finish a Trance track and you label it as Progressive House because all the kids will jump to that genre filter.

Beatport doesn't give a rats ass. "Hey. You are the guy who made the track. You say it's Progressive House, fine with me. I make the 40% either way."

So know that everybody's a DJ, the knuckleheads go searching through the Progressive House charts and BAM! "This track is cool."

Next Saturday they are dropping a Trance track in the Progressive House set at the frat house blowout.

From what I've heard from a few people who run labels and release music, people submitting music to Beatport don't have control over what and/or how their music is classified as far as genre labeling.

So how do you search for music? Click on a genre and starting digging? Good luck with that...

That's not true. I own 2 labels, and I pick the genre.

Definitely not with Beatport, I agree

Traxsource, it's a yes from me - start with Soulful House, then move to Deep House, followed by House, Jackin House and Nu-Disco Genres - and look via new releases/upfront promos - jobs a good 'un, I've then probably covered a large proportion of all the new music that would be of interest to me. They also don't seem to be so overt with their promotion of labels/producers as Beatport tend to (IMHO of course ).

And with other genres of music I play (Future Jungle/Breaks) I use Ravedownload and trackitdown and I'm fortunate to be sent quite a few promos too.

Ok djgoodsex ok.... I know lots of professional djs that buy their music off beatport are they real djs. Also why does it matter where a dj buys his/her music from sure beatport may suck at what they classify as genres and they have the most cheesy top 100 out there but if you dig deep it really is one of the best online music stores.

C'mon man. It makes a world of difference if you buy exactly the same track you want from somewhere other than Beatport.
