If it is a mixer make sure you plug into the LINE IN not PHONO IN on the channel with your RCA cable then make sure that channel is set to line (normally a switch at top of channel).

If its dark and hectic pick a cdj and follow the RCA out of the back of the cdj to the mixer and swap it for your RCA, just 100% put it back when you're done

he should ask them first obviously. That's why i used 'AS LONG AS'

I did this tonight. I could tell there was something wrong from the start, but couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. Kept messing with gains on both mixers, got the levels fine but the bass was distorting like crazy... 5 minutes later I realised what I'd done, flicked the switches and I was good to go.

Ordinarily I wouldn't have made that mistake, but the DJ before me just basically stopped dead before I'd finished doing all my pre-flight checks, so I was panicking and just needed to get something playing asap.

I personally plan out my first 2-3 mixes then improvise from there. Pre-planning sets defeats the purpose of being a "DJ" imho.
