Native Instruments could nail the whole "industry standard" thing in a matter of months if they allowed for truly portable Traktor installations/libraries. Every club would have a PC hard-wired into the DJ booth with a USB hub and Audio 10 set up; you walk in, plug your hard drive / usb stick into the hub, plug your controller(s) in, and away you go.

The next DJ plugs his HDD in, swaps profiles in Traktor, mixes in, and then the previous DJ unplugs his gear and heads off. Like I said, Native Instruments just need to improve their Traktor portability.

An SL4 would make more sense than a Traktor A 10 since Traktor controllerists can use it too. And the extra USB port is there for those bringing their library on a laptop.

Or they could plug their multi-gig USB stick, which has their music and a settings file on it, into the standalone media player. The settings file would set all of the preferences or what ever you want to call it on any NI equipment in the booth. No computer needed.

Sounds word-for-word like the CDJ Nexuses. I can't see NI of all companies ousting Pioneer from the industry standard position.

I'd say 1k. IT IS DOABLE. i mean, a full fledged quad core laptop with a giant display, moving parts, a big battery, and a whole load of other components can be bought for 1k. Also, 999 seems like the magic price for controllers right now..

But not dollar for dollar. Plus what I have in my head isn't as much like the Nexus as it sounds.

Windows laptops are sold at minimal price margins, which is something NI cannot afford to do for something that is sold to the top 5%.

What differences did you have in mind? The brand label?
