Numark Total Control. Tiny little thing, used it for years! Still works, other than a few sticky buttons.
Intoxicated /adj./ When you feel sophisticated without being able to pronounce it.

Used CDJ-200s from a friend and some very old and crappy mixer from the closet of my high school's broadcast journalism department.
Looking back, I was really lucky to have Pio CDJs to learn on!
I play house music!

Korg Nanokontrol and a bootleg version of Traktor. I had all four pages of controls mapped, plus shift functions. Not a real durable piece of equipment, but I knew my way around it and rocked a few parties before I managed an upgrade to the VCI-100!

for djing:
An old pentium3 computer with a pirated version of vdj.
Much like jester's keyboard, only dirtier and without the labels/writings on the keys
Then i progressed to my ipod touch running some first-gen djing app (read, no pitch shift or load from library)
For production: My oldman's p4 setup with cubase VST installed, a cheap headset for listening and recording voice samples, and a 240 year old midi keyboard with half of the keys broken to 4€ midi-usb converter![]()

Got my first bit of kit less than a year ago now. All hand me downs. a Numark axis 2, an Axis 8 and a denon DX120 mixer. I was having lots of fun with that old ass gear until I tried to update the software on it. They completely waked out and stopped working. So I was forced to upgrade...
Bought a Numark DM 1600x and a pair of Technics 1210's all brand new. 15 years later, I still have those decks, though I've gone through several mixers since.
You little lucky bastards.
I practiced beatmatching vinyl (For WEEKS) with one of these (NO PITCH CONTROL) : $T2eC16hHJHUFFfRN+OMoBRYDV8Jjfg~~60_35.JPG
And one of these hooked up to an old Technics receiver: technics_sl-d202_turntable.jpg
Had to be around 1989.
The I got headphones and a realistic mixer. I bagged groceries and waited tables till one day in 1992 I bought a brand new Technics 1200 from a South American export warehouse (shhhhh) for $350. The smell of the platter and the brand new electronics was intoxicating. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it's still one of the happiest days I can remember.
