the kids got it rough these days. I remember when the likes of Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze and Chris Cunningham set the bar for what GOOD music videos were.... that was back when the music channels still played music videos and not shitty reality tv shows.
now it's all about strippers in front of a green screen directed by any old filmschool schlep. god help us all.

the younger generation likes them because they didn't get to see anything else. It's just another aftershock of the changing music industry and smaller budgets that record labels have to work with.
In the 90s there was a lot of cash in it when the only way you could get ahold of high quality sounding music was by purchasing over-priced CDs. So it wasn't out of the norm to see music videos that cost millions to produce because a great music video could rake in massive CD sales for the record companies.
Sexy girls in videos isn't anything new, it's the change from Million dollar budgets to Thousand dollar budgets that is new and the main reason why the art of the music video has suffered.

I'm no expert, but I'd also wager that the internet has had a giant affect on this. People aren't forced to watch the videos hand-picked by CEO's of big media companies.
Actually I believe, too, that part of the reason TV stations like MTV don't play music videos anymore is because people can just watch them on YouTube anyway. But that's a whole different ballgame.
