Totaly depends where you are if you smart and no hurry there are some real bargins there seems to be a gap at the moment between what they are actualy worth and what some people want to sell them for.

My last set cost me $560 in OZ in 2012 and they were so mint they still had the centre adaptors.

Back to the topic though get them fixed ask around there are lots of skilled guys doing this as a hobby I just got quoted $70 for my turntables to have the RCA ground wire mod and new cables fitted. Ask in record shops or Dj equipment supplies if there is anyone local.

70 DOLLARS???? OMG. I'd do that shit for 20 bucks...

Unless 70 includes cables. Really really nice cables.

A single broken MKII should get you $125-$200 if you're lucky, depending on what's wrong with the table.

the $200-$300 price range PER. You're living in a fantasy if you think you're going to get a working pair of 1200's for $200 LOL.
You shouldn't be paying $300 for a SINGLE broken MKII or M3D, that's ridiculous. Average price is $600-$800 for a good condition pair with flight cases.

There isn't one 1200 on eBay Oz for under $500 right now, I really want to get myself one (my next door neighbour has one, who I've known for 20 years, hoping he'd give it to me, but I think that's a while off, and I want one now). So I think I'm willing to spend as much as $500.

Do you know anybody that may want one as well they always go cheaper in pairs and two eyes looking may get you the deal you want. I know I am after a third table just for archiving records.

Try gumtree as well sellers are often up for more negiotations and there not paying eBay fees.

I mean that seems pretty standard if you can't do it yourself and are paying someone else for their time. My time to do it is is worth a lot more than like $5-$10 after the cost of decent cables and I wouldn't unless it was for a friend.

It takes like. 20-30 minutes at most to replace RCA cables... Charging more than 20 dollars for half an hour of labor is outrageous. The skills required to do it are elementary.

I wouldn't pay to have someone do it but it's hardly worth anyone's time to charge $20 to replace some RCA cables. It can also take a bit more than a half hour if they are making custom cables.

It's really not outrageous at all. If this is a shop doing it they have to pay their employees and make some sort of profit on top of their labor after they pay them. Charging $20 would be basically doing work for free which no business is going to do.

if paying someone $70 to do some repair is outrageous to someone they should buy a soldering iron and learn to do it themselves. I've seen places charge a little over $100 for it which gets to be a bit ridiculous.

I think that's a fair price I don't want to do the work and I am happy to pay for someome one to do it for me it's not mates rates. It's not the time it takes it's the skill I am mechanic, suspension technian and I don't give away my labour time skill away for free.

Do you Dj for next to nothing it's only playing records the skills are elementary.

We used to charge £100 - about $150 to re-cable a pair of technics going back 15 years ago, that included decent custom cables with Neutrik RCA's, clean up and bearing adjustments if needed.

When you factor in the Engineer, Shop overheads, 1-2 hours of labour and materials its not extortion. Sure its not a job you "need" a fully qualified engineer for but he was the guy who did the repairs, so it was going to be the same hourly fee to recondition a Vintage Hammond as to re-cable a turntable.

Of course if its an individual doing it as an odd job chopping a 2m cable in half and soldering it in I'd say 40-50 bucks is fair to get the pair in tip top shape again.

And I'd get both of them done BTW generally when one cable fails the other is not far behind.

Also labour is generally charged "per hour or part thereof"
