^ Naw, we have to class music like this so the punters know what to buy at the music store after seeing avicii.
I have this argument with a buddy of mine all the time about rock music. I consider most lofi garage style diy rock punk, he says it's all rock, and to a point, he's right. Deep, tech, electro, it's all house. If its got that simple 4 on the floor house groove, it's probably house, and if it isn't, call it house anyways.

My problem is when I want to find some grimey electro house, I don't want to have to dig through terrible Dutch house to find it.

sorry 031999 i cant agree with you on this one. It think its a bit more then that
I think its wrong if you as an artist or dj, or performer EXCLUDE YOURSELF from other genres and
try to stick to just one of them

yeah thats what i was saying. I would never exclude myself from a certain genre. When a promoter asks me what kind of music I play, I really have no answer except "Dance Music", because I play whatever I want.

    very true.
maybe its not use as djs who think music is dead
maybe its not us as djs who are being shafted actually either.

maybe its just the way things are proposed to us?
for example. A promoter shouldnt ask you "What kind of music do you play" and instead as
"I have a night set for A,B,C.... can you take care of that for me?"

    See what im saying?
I mean if you give a child a choice to play with 10 toys, he will play with them all

If you give him two, and tell him to pick their fav, youll get a specific answer, but thats because you imposed
    a more detailed question.

i dont know.... i might be onto something here
and this might be the next big article i post here on DJTT like the podcasting 101 article i did already

Actually i did just submit another article about "How to get into record labels" but i havent heard back yet

Can't you just listen to it and fucking enjoy it?

Not being funny, but people know what they're told nowadays. Listen to, for example a Dusky or George Fitzgerald tune, and you HAVE to call it deep house, because no one else knows otherwise.

Stop being such chin stroking bell ends and vibe off it. Who cares what the genre is... "Do you like deep house?" "Well that depends... Do you mean like..."

It's just unnecessary confusion, and chances are, people are going to know what is considered to be deep house NOW rather than what it WAS.

Does anyone just use words like deep to describe a sound rather than label it?

Genres is the reason why so many tracks and dj sets sound the same, because producers are aiming for the typical sound of that genre, instead of of letting creativity flow, and then seeing what genre their new track falls into....

    Great post.

Look at DJ's like Doorly. He plays literally all kinds of music in every set that he does. I remember seeing him live before he hit the big time and was just blown away; because of how he uses so many different genres and ties it all together so perfectly he has definitely become someone who I would say is one of my major influences.

The Ibizan Balearic style was this. Alfredo did this kind of thing. 1987 and 1988 were great years there.

You find a real mixture of House styles in the Deep House section of Beatport, etc, and I like that. It probably should just be called House. You get Garagey sounding tracks and all sorts. I think a lot of Nu Disco sounds like House to me, lol. I don't actually browse the House section on Beatport since much of it seems to be cheesey shit that I wouldn't call House music.
