usb 2 is backward compatible, as my pair of k2 are ok with usb 3, and the launchpad is, and my audio 10 is too.
but cannot run them all together.

worked out what my problem is:
it is not the external hubs, but rather the internal "hubs"
my laptop has rubbish USB connectivity, as in there is only a small number of ports, which have some internal devices connected, and the external ports are on hubs, which struggle to cope, when more than one device is plugged in.
so at the moment I have disconnected a couple of devices, and only got 3 plugged into the 3 ports.
my Allen & Heath Xone:4D, Allen & Heath Xone:K2 pair and native instruments audio 10
I have my iPad connected to the audio 10 using an iRig MIDI to use the MIDI din ports.
my old midi music keyboard is connected using midi din sockets to my 4D mixer.
I have an original novation launchpad and a korg nanoKontrol2
neither of which can be used
any ideas?

as I would be using MIDI controllers devices that have USB connections, but I have no ways of using USB to connect to my laptop now that they are occupied
I know midi can be transmitted over Ethernet
would I be able to use something like this?

I think I can use an Ethernet midi driver in windows to use my tower PC to transmit the midi from the launchpad and or the nanoKontrol2
