But I do enjoy dropping some good prog house circa 2000-2004 into deep house sets and people being like dafuk and then remind them of what real prog house/trance is instead of this big room garbage

respect from my peers (old guys) is usually about the car you drive and local you live, so no real respect for DJing. When I was younger people always thought it was about getting laid, so that's not really respect either. Never really thought about it to be honest though. Like a recent interview I read from that guy from the stooges telling artists if they are worried about money quit the music business.

But In my current city...this is how I have found success.

----If you play what people WANT to hear...no respect. If you play what people NEED to hear...respect.----

It may sound a little philosophical...but it is true. Play the unexpected, play the unusual, play the out of place, mix it up.
90% of club and rave djs are pretty much playing the same 1000 songs on a monthly basis.

When I play a track and someone looks at me and they have that look in their eyes...like..."I have just lost control of my body, why is it moving this way...and HOW??" That's when you know your playing good tracks.

Even other djs will respect you, because you put the time and effort to find a track that no one in your area has ever heard.

Its hard to respect anyone that is playing tracks that can be found and acquired in 15 seconds on itunes for 99cents.

Put forth the effort, people will notice.

    IMHO

Many of you know my style of djing, is based more on finding the most obscure tracks i can play (good ones) I'm a digger for life!
I agree with this pretty strongly. Not to say that you shouldn't play to your crowd, but if your simply A to Bing records that they have heard a million times over, they aren't going to think of you as anything more than a human iPod.

I was just going to say this. Every time I've played in Stoon I've had a blast. I'm going to be moving there for a few months in January, which I am really looking forward to.

Well I shouldn't talk about sask scene as I really don't go out... That said In a small town.... But I'd love to be involved a bit in SASK scene but a family life makes it hard to justify full involvement... My stance has been I'd be open to monthly going ons... Hell izn been trying to get me into city for some time now one of these days I'll have to hit up hookah lounge and then should hit up gabbos on Thursday sometime...

    I feel you.

For what it's worth, the sound isn't totally dead....just changed...and slower.

The anjunadeep stage at Tomorrowworld was bumpin'. It really made me want to dig out some of my older proton stuff and record a mix. Also, I keep stumbling on random "techno", "deep house", and "breaks" tracks that have that feeling....except they're all like 125-135.

Still...if we're thinking the same kind of vibe, we should set up some kind of an online "vs" mix in the next few weeks.

Sadly a lot of promoters feel that more DJs mean more guests and so on so I see a lot of nights crammed with DJs. It's not right.

IDK...maybe it's just what I've been reading lately, but I'm convinced that there are ways to do anything you want, at least in the short term.

Actually making the time to do it and having the dedication to make it happen, that's harder.
