Any word on what the international shipping costs will be?
I'm sorry that I don't like the NI controller, I'm sure you had some say in the design process and you feel personally about it. I just feel it lacks a lot and had a lot of potential. I think you guys at NI should have been more involved with the community in figuring out what the consumer wants in designing it. If there's a Rev 2 version or another more advanced version maybe you guys could do a design contest or work with the community more to produce a controller that more people will want.
It seems geared towards the external mixer crowd which in general wants a lot more features and options where this controller seems more simplistic offering relatively limited and basic control. I'm sure you have seen some of the crazy 1D and 4D maps among the other advanced MIDI maps out there for other controllers and how many parameters in Traktor people manage to map to them. That should be an indication that people want total control without touching the keyboard and mouse, and NI has the potential to produce something to meet those needs better than any other controller currently available.
Compared to the nearest equivalent I can see which is a Novation Launchpad (£150 over here, so around $250) that's a damn good deal! Especially after hearing Ean's comments regarding the feel of the pads I'm interested in one, although having just seen the Akai MPD18 (£85, so around $140) I'd like to try them side by side (although I sense the MidiFighter would still win, plus is much more flexible long-term)

No i had no involvement in the X1.
I really dont care what people think about it unless they talk rubbish.
Its clearly not "junk". You havent used one but you bash it like it is a complete failure.
It was designed primarily as a Controller for DVS and External Mixer use. To compete in the Xone 1D and Faderfox market which is does a great job of considering its power (which may not be obvious on paper).
It baffles me that people can rubbish something just because it doesnt fit their particular needs.
Some guy said it was a "total waste of time" because it lacked Jog Wheels???
Its made for people who dont want jog wheels.
Its like saying "That Dog is rubbish , its nothing like my cat"
It always amazes me when people assume that making a piece of gear by some kind of whacky democracy will produce the perfect item. What makes you think that NI arent capable of making stuff without the help of over opinionated users (that means people in general not a dig at you , please dont take that personally).
NI have got a pretty successful range of products.
The X1 is cheap and aimed at a certain market , I think it hits the market well. It wasnt ever meant to be an Xone 4d or Maven.
I also found that assuming that the Midi Fighter will be overpriced and that you can build one yourself for less was a little rash.
Looks like it will be a great success. Well done i say.
Jus sayin'
Agreed. Although ive started to hear early adopters saying that the Akai is falling apart already.
Also, the Midi Fighter looks sexy as fuck

I have an MPD18, and it's pretty nice. I picked it up at a guitar center for around 75 bucks, which is about half of your estimate. The pads feel really nice, and the velocity and pressure sensitivity makes for some interesting possibilities.
That being said, though I'm still planning on picking up a MidiFighter. Arcade buttons = win.
I'm not good at things, but I like to pretend I am.
