That kind of coating/rubber tends to degrade pretty fast on hot/humid environments and it isn't too being near the sea either. Not saying they can't remove the holes (although they are pretty much a design icon at this point, just like Tech's platter rim), just that switching the rubber to a higher friction one will also make them get dirty/degrade a LOT easier.

You are right, maybe use some not-so-high-friction-rubber, and some microvilli (>1mm dots), so you would have a larger contact area.

But you are right about these high friction rubbers tending to degrade fast, I didn't thought about that.

You don't brush a pothole. It just creates a less accurate surface. Just weak tactile design.

You don't brush the platter on a CDJ, either - because it's not spinning. You're actually doing the OPPOSITE of brushing - you are holding and accelerating/decelerating the CDJ platter to affect pitch.
