What youre asking is quite literally the deffiniton of Djing.

Have you ever heard somebody Djing and noticing there would be no difference between a human actually mixing, and just using the shuffle option on iTunes? Yeah, THATS what Djing is about, finding the right track at the right moment.

Ive never in my 14 years using Traktor cared about mixing in key, but funnily enough whenever i get curious and check theplaylist most of them are actually in key.

Maybe it helps having a musical background, ive played bass. guitarr and keyboards since age 11 and most of the time it comes in handy knowing something about melodies and harmonies, etc.

But usually i just have the first 1 or 2 tracks prepared, and after that its just whatever i feel it fits, i only have techouse, acidhouse, minimal and techno and knowing your music helps to find that particular hihat pattern or drum loop that you feel it goes well with whats playing. However, i know and ive seen people playing literally a pre-selected set of 20-30 tracks in the exact same order they have it prepared, and they rehearse the mix, all the way down to the exact second where they'll mix the next track. Like a calculator.

    To each its own so...

100%. 80% of the job is track selection, if you are too fuckin' lazy to even get good at that, then time to find a new hobby kids.
