Isn't that just bittersweet... It's archived, but you can't get to the actual posts...
That is the shittiest thing ive ever read about Mods and a forum (i dont mean what you wrote, i mean what the Mods said).
If DJTT went down I know for a FACT that all the mods would be concerned and they would team up 'outside' the forum to make sure that information was made available to the members if and when it could be.
No-one is paying for anything around here. Theres just a moral obligation or s personal duty to do the right thing.
Are there any DJF Mods on DJTT ..? Show of hands !!!
I just never understood why the mods were so hostile about it...
If the site is down for anything longer than a few hours people notice, and there is obviously a problem. Sure its probably annoying to get asked, but as a moderator or site owner I believe you have a responsibility to at least make announcements or address the situation in some way. Not just insta lock every thread asking and throwing your weight around.
On another note, I work with hosting and web based projects for my 9-5. I have never, EVER heard of the problems described by djf staff for the downtime. Something doesn't add up, but that's just my personal opinion.
that was my concern with DJF as well. i could understand the arguements brought up like the owners having jobs and and children and all that yadda yadda but imo if you run a website you are responsible for it. do it or let it die.
and it saddens me that when people ask why the forum out of nowhere is down for a week or so you get something along the lines of "don't you have a life and cannot do anything productive during the downtime instead of whining about it?" as an aswer.
Those arguments were bullshit. If they'd said that after a week, fine. After a month, well, OK. But the site has been up and down for a year or so. There's several admins and loads of mods there and not one of them could have sorted something out in a year because they were too busy with jobs and families? Nah. Nobody wanted to pull their finger out and actually sort it.
Many people paid for accounts on DJF, either through VIP accounts or vendor accounts, so the "the site is free so STFU" arguments don't work either and even if they did, that's not the way you talk to people who are regular visitors to your forum.
It seemed to me that it had reached the point where nobody gave a fuck. Some of those guys had decent jobs in IT, yet nobody has a backup of the site? They couldn't sort out a new host in a year? They couldn't create a pinned thread on DJF letting people know the situation, instead of telling people to STFU when they asked what's going on? They couldn't keep people better updated about the site down time via Twitter, Facebook and forums like this one?

I mean..I was one of those people saying something along those lines.
Don't get me wrong, being able to get online to speak to someone about djing, music or something related is great and all, but there is more to life than just wasting away in front of a comp all day on a forum. Thats just me though.....
For the DJTT community, thanks for welcoming us former DJF people and thanks for expanding the forum a little bit.
that is a perfectly resonable standpoint but when i am signing up for a forum i expect to be able to connect to those people at any given time. for example i want to buy some new gear but want some hands on experience reviews from others and get immediat feedback only to find out the forum is down once again and i have to wait a week until it's up again.
and just because people are complaining about it does not mean that they dwell in front of the computer all day to post on the forum. for most of them it means that they enjoy being there and i can totally understand the frustration of some people after a week trying to visit the site only to recieve our infamous "database error".
ok, your right. we should be able to have outside lives. I for one spend a lot of time working at a omputer and a forum is a nice break when I need it.
my argument is, had they actually fixed it, it wouldnt be gone now.
when the small outages came, they said deal with it. had they fixed it then, they wouldnt be offline now.
if they didnt want it or have time for it, they coulda given it to someone that cared and did have time for it.
it is just a waste
