I'd rate the Digital Jockey over the Numark mixtrack or the Vestax typhoon any day.

Vestax probably has the best build quality followed by the reloop. I think the quality of numark stuff is cheap, the faders have a nasty feel to them. It feels like a toy.

The reloop has by far and away the best features and layout. I think if you wanted to go a bit further with a controller and really got into the whole djing thing you'd outgrow the other 2 rather quickly.

The touch sensetive jogs on the reloop are a nice feature, theyre good for a bit of fun scratching, but I never used it for that. Scratching on a controller is pants. I remapped them for my own purposes.

But the built in soundcard is decent too. I bought an audio 4 recently and its not £150 better than the DJ. Its good quality hardware.

As with anything nowadays, you get what you pay for.
I think reloop got the pricing of their digital jockey right, it sits that line between the cheap toyish controllers and the quality of the VCI 100. Thats why I bought it, and im glad I did.

    Hey man

Nice one for the reply. I'm really into this controller and i think i'm just gonna stick with my gut feeling and order one. I just think it looks like the coolest thing out there at the minute and has everything i want in a controller.
i have one more question about the jogs if you dont mind?.... does the lack of touch sensitivity on the controller edition mean that you cant use the jog wheels to pitch bend (speed up/slow down) your track? like i say i'm not a scratch DJ nut i do like the physical aspect of speeding up and slowing down with the jog wheels.
Thanks again for your advice man!!

Personally I'd miss the touch sensetive jogs. I have them mapped to the effects. It feels much more engaging using the jogs to do something creative than mearly pitchbending.

check the mapping out here: http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15903

But you could pitchbend without the touch senseivity, yes.

If you do go and get one, make sure you read the instructions and follow the tutorials on their site. Update the firmware, download the mappings, try them out, get comfortable with the RDJ. Hopefully you'll get a good one and wont have any of the issues described in this thread.

    cool no probs

It took me a while to understand (still not 100% )

the touch sensitive jog sends a midi message when you touch it
like as if you pressed a button.

so say you have it set to scratch for finding a cue point or something, holding the wheel holds the track. releasing, the track plays

I've not used the controller edition. i only understand it in theory.

with out touch sensitivity (ie registers something when you touch the wheel)
on the controller edition you would have to 'turn' the wheel for it to realise you were doing something 'on' the wheel.

i have a gut feeling that the touch sensitivity is important for "feel" if you are cueing tracks etc. not just scratching.

its an extra £80, (and bumps it up to semi pro standard with the pro decks twice the price ) if it all goes well the audio card might not give you sh*t. and the headphone volume curve might be suitable for your headphones, mine the dennons are pretty loud. so you'll get touch sensitive jogs and audio for the extra £80

I feel its best to get the interface edition

Hopefully I get a new one because mine broke. its either going to go ok with sapphires or be a totally stress out

sapphires do it with a bag or voucher decks.co.uk

you could sell the bag. use the laptop sleeve that came with the bag but use a UDG bag the £65 one. I put the laptop and the RDJ2 in the big compartment. using the laptop sleeve that came free with the free bag to protect it from knocks

    hey.
You two have just totally restored my faith in the RDJ2!!! Thanks!!!
I'm going to get one ordered, use Flash101's mapping and see how it goes. After using CDJ's for the past 7 years i think having the touch sensitive jogs is essential.
Listen guys you've been a great help so i really appreciate it!!!
I'll let you know when i'm up and running.
    Cheers

    why west end DJ?

Sapphires do it with a bag or 20 voucher for shop or beat port?

    decks.co.uk

plus they'll have it in stock

probably not too late to cancel the westend dj order

Yeah long story but to cut short i've cancelled the order and placed it (as you suggested) with decks.co.uk so looking forward to getting it a little sooner!!! fingers crossed.

How are you getting on with your mapping? what are you looking at changing?

Oh and have you upgraded Trakto LE to Traktor Pro? would you recommend this?

    first things first

give yourself a week to realise that lots of things a different with a computer DJ setup.

Some stuff you needed to do before, will become redundant
some new stuff will make you realise there's a whole new load of shit you can do.

    it depends on your style

    scratch
    samples
    2 deck
    4 deck
    FX

buy a A4 hardback notebook from tesco for 70p

and jot down all your thoughts as they happen

kind of things you like about traktor,
    things you don't understand
    new concepts

and allow all that to sink in

    It sounds a bit patronising

but the computer DJ setup is a different beast bro

also check that decks.co.uk have included a free adapter. there's are quite good and don't fall off. Reloop don't include one.

I don't use the Power supply but I'd still make sure you get the adaptor from decks.co.uk

ok so i took delivery on Thurs and my first impression is that i absolutely love it!! Been to a couple of house parties over the weekend and took the Digital Jockey with me and it rocked the place. i have a couple of friends who have been using CDJ's for years and are used to turning up at parties with 2x CDJ's, mixer, cables and CD wallets in 3 or 4 different bags. I showed up over the weekend with my Digital Jockey and Laptop all in one bag!!! They were amazed at how responsive it was as well. After adjusting the sensitivity of the jog wheels they are equal in my opinion to a CDJ.

I must admit that Traktor takes some getting used to and i am starting to compile a list of things that i just can not figure out but i'm sure that with time all will become clear.

I have quickly figured out some cool uses of the effects and the loop function works like a dream!!!

All in all i am in absolute awe of this controller and i just cant wait to learn more about it.

Have to say thanks to you both for your advice, its proven invaluable!!

    Jon
