Since Ean's in on this I would say: Yes.

if so, it will most likely to use the shift key in some way, or the fader fx mode. then again it states that that traktor is only for that controller, but u never know

    ahh, totally forgot.

the question now: traktor pro has been out since 2008, should i invest in upgrading to it, or save my money for a possible future version that may be coming out this year?

I'm in exactly the same situation but NI's said that the sample decks will be released as an update to regular Traktor Pro as well at a later date so there will probably be some way to use them with the VCI-100SE when that update is out.

Something like, SHIFT+Juggle buttons (although that's used for Snap and Quantize right now) to enable the sampler decks and then the four buttons at the bottom to control playback. Not sure about how to do volume and filter for them though

Or you'll control the sample decks using the Deck C & D buttons because they replace those decks anyway.

Ean has already said the VCI-100SE will get mapping to work with the updated Traktor Pro

From the article on the homepage

They are both fun controllers just different products for different needs. When Traktor Pro gets updated with the sample decks, we will update the SE mapping to add that functionality.

I have both the VCI 100 Arcade addition and the Midi Fighter along with the Audio8. I find my self taking really only my macbook pro and the VCI100 along with my Audio8 because its portable and easy to set up around other club gear etc.

However i am really tempted to also get the S4 just because it looks like such a beast to dj with what i think it will come down to is if the club or place you are djing at has the room to fit your gear and if there cool with it? Where i play everywhere i go to play is cool with my digital set up but some places have small spaces to make use of so thats where my VCI set up would really come in handy as i can quite easily fit it around gear or on top of it as i have a special bag to rest my vci on that wont damage the gear underneath etc, But if i were to DJ for one of my regular gigs i would be in nice and early for setup so i would be allowed to move things around to make space for something like the S4 but i dont imagine it being that much of a hassle unless your using the flight-case haha but who wouldnt want to that thing looks sick

I can't believe this is a discussion about the portability of the NI S4 vs. the VCI-100. Compare either of those to a 50lb. flight case with 2 turntables and mixer and they seem positively tiny, don't they? To say that one is more portable than another is silly, they both fit in a backpack and weigh less than 10 pounds. I haven't played out too many places, but if a place doesn't have enough space for your controller, how were they expecting you to DJ? With the new FloatingStand? (Release date Sept!) What if you showed up with 2 1200's and a mixer like a proper vinyl DJ? I can't imagine anyplace being too small for a controller and laptop.
Rob, get either one. Just realize you'll have to buy a sound card for the VCI-100. (or you could get a VCI-300) Also, the S4 is going to be the latest and greatest, the VCI-100 has been out for a while. I vote NI S4, don't worry about the portability argument, that's nonsense.

Yeah of course they take up much less space then a flight case with Turntables/CDJ's and a mixer etc but the thing is most dj's who would rock up to a club who either play Vinyl or on CD's dont bring there gear but rather use the club gear, all they bring along is there vinyls or CD's.

Where as we are bringing along our own controller and gear to add to theres. So the club may already have a set up which takes all the space in the DJ Booth and leaves you with nothing... It sucks but thats the case sometimes and the managers or who ever is running the night arent always the nicest people to deal with when it comes to adding things to there current setup as it just causes confusion for them and they just dont want to deal with things like this sometimes.. Especially when they have had some one whos totally new who unplugs shit loads of cables and then when the next dj comes on everything is in shambles.. it doesnt help.

If the booth has space for your gear then thats bloody awesome but sometimes its not the case, and the difference between a VCI100 and an S4 could be quite a bit depending on what gear you have and how you set up you gear in the booth etc.

In the end though i would think as long as you go check out the club or place your playing a night before or something along those lines like contacting who ever is running the night and making sure with them theres space etc you should not have a problem setting up either of them.
