Yeah when you apply you need to provide flyers, or promotional stuff with your name on plus websites and all the details of the clubs including club managers names and numbers etc.
They do check up cus they get a lot of applications.
They also check up occasionally. Not by stealth means but they just check out your activity to see what your up to gigwise. Although saying that i know a few guys that havent gigged in years an they just keep filling out the feedback/reaction forms and lie about stuff. They seem to get away with it.
Id urge anyone to apply to these lists. As soon as you get a gig with your name on a flyer your a DJ in a promoters eyes cus you can play his services to people.
Thanks for the heads up on the classic mp3s (probably ripped from vinyl) from djcity, CaptainMidnight. I don't belong to any pools, but if I did and then decided to quit (or got kicked out) am I still allowed to keep songs I've downloaded since they are DRM free?
http://dirtymexicanlemonade.com/ has a few good tracks from time to time, free to download (just click the yellow/black "download file" image on the hulkshare page)
From their "Is This Legal?" page:
Which means you can't keep these tracks for more than 1 day (not sure if even that is legally allowed?)All downloads posted on www.dirtymexicanlemonade.com are purely for evaluation purposes only. If you like the artists work, support them and buy their albums and/or individual songs. Users are responsible for their downloads and by downloading, users understand these files must be deleted after 24 hours. We assume no responsibility for nor do we condone illegally downloading copyrighted music.
I also don't believe for one bit that most of these free blogs actually get their music through the labels, although they often advertise they do.
