Not a fan of Hardstyle (it's become real popular around here though), but I do have a soft spot for Hardcore (it's what got me into EDM in the first place).

Grew up with it, since I'm from nyc (our scene ate it up two summers ago). Personally always loved trance and hard trance, then got into a lot of early/old school hardstyle and hard house. Love me some hardcore and gabber too. Lucky enough to see angerfist last winter in Brooklyn.

Over here where I'm at, hardstyle is the kind of music played at four'o'clock in the morning out in the provincial cities with one bar, by the backwater dj on a tuesday night, which the drunkest four guys around jump around to trying to impress last chick sitting in the bar.

That's what it reminds me of, anyway

Reviving an old thread I see

I am origionally from Wellington N.Z We had a good Hardhouse/Hardstyle scene in which my friends and I frequented. the clubs are open till 6-7am in the morning over there and there was always a shady day club that would bang hardstyle till 12pm sunday. They were some great times, was a very good croud everyone knew everyone. We use to listen to It all weekend. get wasted without anyone giving a shit and finish on a sunday night. had quite a few afterpartys at mine, and we would still have it bangin round the clock. was a good scene, most of my friends back then were DJs who loved that style.

One of my best friends and former flatmate though would prefer a Drum & Bass, Breaks night over a the latter style though.

My friend's were more into that style than me. I didnt have any of my own gear at the time. & us mates stuck together so naturally it was a very big part of my life at the time as almost all of my friends were in some way involved in that scence.
(long time in the scene, but a late bloomer behind the decks/controller)

    So to summarise my novel

Hardstyle I will always have a place in my heart as I had some great times & made some great friend's during that era of my life.

But since I left N.Z late 2007 & I havn't really listened or been involved with it since

p.s Hardstlyle/Hardhouse was the music that played at my farewell party

hopefully there's no problem with the mods since i replied to ths age old thread :P
i'm aware that this is more towards controller/digital method of djing..but i think there's no harm to discuss about music, right?

as for me originally i cant stand hardstyle (the cheesy ones we used to listen at supermarkets at least :P) but the older tunes were great.
example Derb, Out Of Grace etc...along with hardhouse/hardtrance.
still do now but it's soo hard to find new releases for this kind of music.
just recently influenced a colleague to listen to harder stuff since he's into building his car sound system...looks like he's interested, and of course i'm happy!

    You have hardstyle in supermarkets?!
Ive been trying to get into getting more hard-trance/hardstyle songs but cant find any dedicated labels.

i personally love hardcore but dont really like cheesy hardstyle so much. i much prefer more raw hardstyle like zany, tatanka, zatox, luna etc to the cheesy shit like headhunterz or brennan heart. hardstyle is usually 150ish but hardcore is anything over 165 in my opinion, hardcore is very raw and balls to the wall, wheras harstyle is a lot more melodic, most of the time!

Hoodless check traxtorm, neophyte and masters of hardcore for hardcore labels, and neurotraxx for hardstyle! q dance party lineups would be the main artists to check

Ive looked at masters of hardcore before, even been to a few of their 'events' but most of it is 180/200bpm gabber-esque shite.

I see hardstyle as having so much more energy than most other edm genres... But I can see why people hate it. As I have only just got into it :P

Ps. Seen angerfist, headhunterz and tatanka in the last year :P
