Eh I mean it depends on the type of remix and where you are playing. I've never DJed at but I've been to Top-40's clubs and while they don't play a lot of remixes they will play club-remixes to songs (typically full lyrics intact, britney spears till the world end comes to mind) but they'll also play some interesting mixes that are higher energy than the original song. Crooklyn Clan is a club staple and they have tons of remixes, mashes, and partybreaks which people love. I'm just really confused by this statement.
*Samsung rv 511, 8gb ram, core i5 processor* *Samsung netbook 2gb ram* *Traktor pro 2* *Traktor s4* *midi fighter spectra* *audio technica ath-m50x* *m audio trigger finger pro* *ableton* *fl studio* and a load of other random bits and pieces.... plus I like bacon yo.
Fair enough.
The "radio edit" of songs seems to be generally accepted in my area. The "EDM" remixes are not generally accepted in my area.
I will create my own edits of songs to extend intros or make outros to enable better mixing...but slams are the Top 40 DJs BFF for mixing between songs.
There are occasional "cute" mashups that catch on and become popular...but they tend to have the shelf life of a banana. It would be really hard to go back 2 or 3 years and dust off one of these cute remixes and play it.

I do see your point.
Question:
I am preparing for a friends party. Need to play some party hip-hop but none of the new hip-hop coming out seems dance friendly. I never play hip-hop really but I like some older stuff. I was thinking of going back to some "classics" like Juicy and Party Up. Juicy is probably old enough to go well and Party Up is from 1999 which is still (relatively) old in comparison. I don't know if I really want to play stuff from '08-'09 and early 2010 (Songs like "all I do is win", "make it rain" etc...) because I think it's recent enough that people will think you have simply failed to update your playlist. Most of my top-40's stuff is of the dancy electronic variety and the rest is (at least for the party playlist) is more poppy type EDM.
Anyway, can you recommend some newer hip-hop that has the energy of a song like DMX's "party up" that sounds sufficiently different from current dance/electronic music? Or could I get away playing the old bangers from a few years ago? I have a lot of the chris brown stuff. I hate lil' Wayne and Drake but I'll probably end up playing that stuff.
i dislike top40 at times because it gets so damn repetitive. but it can be fun sometimes with the right crowd. on another note, some of the club bangers these days are from drake, lil wayne, chris brown, busta rhymes, twista, trey songz, usher, travis porter, waka flocka flame, wiz khalifa, big sean, 50 cent, fabolous, pitbull, jamie foxx, rick ross, nicki minage, eminem, black eyed peas, far east movement, flo rida, kanye west and others that aren't popping into my head. you should find a lot of songs from them and you can just play the classic club bangers in between them like ying yang twins, lil jon, juvenile, ludacris, snoop dogg, etc.
if you know a way i can copy the tracklist in my itunes then i would send it to you. i got quite a bit of top 40.
Go to iTunes. Look at the list of top singles right now. ??? Profit.
