Yeh, I saw something about a problem with outgoing midi messages. How easy is it to downgrade back to SL if there's a real fuck up? I'm DLing Lion right now. Early adopter, what can I say.

Having resized and created partitions on many a mounted drive under OS X, I'm fairly confident that's not the reason you have to reboot. You do have to reboot to replace a kernel with a new version, so I'd expect that to be the core reason why you have to restart…though there are other reasons as well…not the lest of which is the complexity of replacing running processes with new versions without breaking anything.

Easy as reinstalling Snow Leopard. Assuming, of course, that you have a copy of the install disk that you can use and have a working backup.

If you have a drive image, then it's just a matter of restoring it.

Umm…you're considering upgrading OS X and you run pro tools? WTF? Just a friendly warning…the last time I did that, it was 6 months before Pro Tools would start again thanks to a combination of incompatibility and licensing issues. The HD3 system I use at school is still running Leopard and PT 8 for just that reason.

DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR OS IF YOU RUN PRO TOOLS UNTIL AVID TELLS YOU TO DO IT!

If you're going to try that, please for the love of god have a disk image backup.

    Also, if anyone's interested:*http://roaringapps.com/

According to them, Traktor Pro 2.0.1 works fine.
    Logic 9 has some issues.
Logic 8 doesn't work at all.
    Maschine isn't on the list.
Aleton Live 8.2.1 and 8.2.2 are supposed to work.
Pro Tools does not work at all.
    Scratch Live has issues.
    Itch isn't listed at all.
And apparently they might have screwed with Core Audio some.

Oh, and Quicksilver beta 60 is supposed to work…if anyone cares.

Does anyone understand NI's licensing well enough to know whether or not I can install an external and run Maschine off my internal drive without going to jail for supposedly pirating software that I own?

Eh... if you play live gigs with the system you're thinking of upgrading, then follow rule # 1

Rule # 1: If shit aint broken, don't fix it.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I guess my assumption was that in the case of installing Lion, the installing creates a recovery partition, which as far as the OS is concerned isn't the same as splitting off a chunk of free space into a separate partition, so that might require unmounting the drive, rebooting the system, etc.

I could be wrong though! And if someone can correct me on the exact process that the Lion installer takes to perform these tasks, I will happily admit so.

I'm not planning on upgrading my iMac (my pro tools rig) till Avid have ok'd the situation!

But I imagine ableton will sort out there DAW first as will NI with traktor then i can upgrade my MBP to Lion.

Don't worry, i've had OS X issues in the past also!
