I can map my FX with the FX tab open then I hit the midi button and I'm set.

Of the streamlined approach, it's not becase of sync button or phase meter. For starters the library works 100x better in SSL than Traktor, I can create my crates, smart crates, etc. have a prepare view panel. This is much more user friendly. No need for a "collection" import to, etc. I used to find myself in Traktor mapping things all the time, modifiers, etc. No need for that in SSL it's a much more straight the point software. I can map a button with two clicks. For me it's straight to the point and the stacked waves provide better visual feed back than side by side waves and a phase meter. I enjoy it tons more. If I had a need for the all the bells and whistles in Traktor I would've stuck around, however somedays I felt more like a computer programer than a DJ when using Traktor. I enjoy SSL much more and I find I play better sets without all the features simply because I'm having more fun.

Sorry I don't know anything about Serato...

    1. I know you have to have their audio card, but can you use any external mixer, or does it have to be a Rane?
    2. Can you mix more than 2 decks? I've only ever seen 2 deck djs when out at night.
    3. Does is support native HID mode for cdjs, or do you have to use timecode?

    4. Can you post a screen shot so I can see what it looks like? Limited google ability at work...

    1. Any mixer
    2. It depends on your SL card, an SL2 has 2 decks, an SL3 has 3 and an SL4 has 4. The SL4 also has dual USBs.
    3. yes it does.

    1. Any mixer when used with an external SL card. The TTM57 and Rane 68 have audio interfaces built in so you don't need the extra card.
    2. Yes, but its hardware dependent (SL3 for 3 decks, SL4 or 68 for 4).
    3. Yes, and much better than Traktor's HID support.

And +1 to the "ease of use". Everything that you can do in SSL is easier than it is in Traktor (except not being able to analyze tracks whenthe audio interface is plugged in!) and its great if that's all that you need. Obviously, you can do a lot more in Traktor, and that's where it just comes down to personal preferences/needs.

Edit: FEP beat me to it, not fast enough on a phone!

    Thanks guys!

I definitely like the look of Traktor much more, but I couldn't say one is better than the other by just looks. I would have to get my hands on it and try. I do like the parallel waveforms however.
