He'll at a local shop in Houston it'd be if I was lucky 12 dollars if I was lucky. Now days musics cheap said it in last thread will say it again. In 2000/2001 my monthly track budget was 1000 now I'm lucky if I burn through 300 a month

In Estonia there have been few cases where a policeman in privates clothing is asking the dj to play some David Guetta or something that the local anti-piracy has righst for. Then they're recording it and are asking to see the legal cd. You all know the story which is coming after. Some guy got 6 months in jail parolee for this. Here I think it's illegal to play any kind of copies. So if you download a song lets say from beatport, then it's a copie of the song at the server so it's illegal. Ridiculous laws.

i guess a lot of tunes don't get released on any kind of physical media tho. wouldn't being able to show your purchase history and receipts from a site like beatport get u out of trouble? one reason i'm sticking to buying most of my stuff from one website (djtunes.com) is so i have all that info in one place in case i ever needed to prove ownership.

    Let's be honest...
Some people aren't blessed to live in NYC, with rich ass parents, and get a club job right off the bat. The people who pirate music cause they're selfish, that's one thing, but the people who pirate music because that's the difference between doing what they love or not. People who dj for money, not for love, we should be chewing them out. We all don't start out with $10,000. If your dad buys you all your shit for good grades, you've earned nothing. But if you have no other option, go ahead. I just started working weekly, and since i have, i've started buying all my music, because it's not a big killing my bank account anymore. Seriously, there's way more dj's who should be getting picked on than the ones who pirate music, seriously.

It would probably get you out of trouble, but de jure its illegal.

that's pretty odd. so if you *cant* buy a certain track on cd or vinyl then u have no legal way of owning it even if u can buy a digital copy?

You can own it, but you can't play it legally at a party.
I think that even owning pirate music here is legal, but if you want to play something at parties
then you have to have non-copies so vinyl/cd. If you rip your vinyl to cd just to save it its - illegal.

I know in other countries they have different laws but this makes no sense whatsoever. So if you have an ipod and just play out of that, thats OK but if you burn to a cd its illegal to play? Doesn't make sense that its OK to own and to play from 1 type of media but not OK to play from another, I can't imagine anywhere in the world that a law like that exists, then again, ya never know lol.

Also record labels release tracks to record pools before it gets released to the general public so if you belong to a record pool you can get an artists whole album before it is actually released on itunes or released on cd in the store. There is no real way to tell that a file was gained illegally. I could take a cd I bought 20 years ago, rip it to my computer, go to a peer sharing network and let people download it from me, they now have the exact same thing I have, who is to say that they didn't rip it themselves? Its very hard to prove and too much trouble to go through.

I belong to 2 different record pools, I spend $40 a month and can get hundreds of tracks all legally.
