maybe we should drop a vocal over it saying 'this track was pinged by soundclouds algorithm and i didnt give a fuck and wanted to play it anyway' halfway through it, see if that did anything

The deadmau5 track I played was really a good bit of deep/tech house. Of course it was a Stimming remix so it had that going for it.

Mix something over it, add some random sound/loop, change tempo, etc. If it's a computer algorithm you basically just have to outsmart that by making it sound slightly different. Or just don't support deadmau5 because he's a tool and doesn't like djs. Either one works.

This is a tough ethical issue. As a producer I would at least like the mixer to list my track in the mix so something good comes out from the use, like PR/marketing, as the mixers seldom if ever pay any royalties back to the artists. If that's not done, then I think it's fine to ban the track from uploading sites, myself.

pretty much this. had it happen to me before, on one of my intro tracks. a filtered + fx intro and a reupload later and it was sweet.

This issue has turned me off of Soundcloud. Mixcloud FTW!

I've had it happen 3 times now, with the following songs as sections of mixes: -

    1. The Who - My Generation (I used a sample of it for an intro)
    2. GZA - Liquid Swords
    3. Dilated Peoples - Ear Drums Pop

It's annoying, especially as I uploaded 3 or 4 mixes to SoundCloud with no issues, then I bought a premium subscription, and only then did I seem to get hit with the automatic copyright detection although I realise that that's just an unlucky coincidence.

I think it's detrimental, not just to me, but to the actual artist whose music I'm mixing. Are there people out there who were going to buy GZA's album, but didn't because they downloaded my mix that had 2 minutes of Liquid Swords in it and that was good enough for them? I doubt it. I'd say that there's probably more people out there who buy tracks and albums because they discovered that song or artist through a mix.
