    it seems like a lot of stuff to take overseas, that's a lot of weight and space in your backpack, If I were you i'd look at getting a dualcore atom windows tablet to replace your laptop and learning how to map, but again you should just get the novation nocturn, it's small, light, strong and versatile. the encoders can be endless or absolute so you can control things like jogs, loop size, browse with endless and eq's, effects etc.. with absolute. there is 4 buttons per side although one is best being a shift so you get 6 functions per side. there is also unlimited hardware shifts with 4 shifts that can be easily accessed on the unit with led feedback to let you know whats active.

    K2 or X1+Audio2(+LPD8?) would be my choices, I guess.

    Edit: Don't really need the LPD8 for scenario 2, if you're not dead set on using lots of effects remapping the FX section to volume and 3-band-eq is sufficient.
