You're right, in a just world we would be only as famous as we are skilled.

We, however, do not live in a just world. Anything that gets you noticed, that sets you apart from the pack, is a bonus.

A DJ is a sub-category of the entertainment industry. Our job is to do just that - entertain.

You could be the best magician in the world doing illusions other people can only dream of, but that alone is unlikely to get you noticed. It's all about the show.

A nobody DJ puttin one of those on while they're DJ'n would be one of the dorkiest moves out there. After deadmau5 did it(which was different and accepted at the time), all the ackward people tried to follow, so it's now a played out and dorky idea

this. Hype it up anyway you want but this is the truth. People come see a DJ to have fun and be entertained. Everyone has a different way of doing that. It doesn't change the music I play, or the way I play it. I'm just wearing a mask for the higher energy parts of the set. Its pretty funny some of you guys are getting all worked up about it. If you don't like it, dont do it. End of story
If you don't have haters, you're not doing it right

@ Otacon, you really want to cry because we don't like some douchy 'light up masks'? I'm gonna put you in the same category as Pauly D.

I'm kinda split here, on one hand I think it's kinda cool, on the other hand I would not like to be the one who's remembered for wearing a cool mask instead of the good music I play. (that comment is not directed towards anyone you pussies, it's a generic thought).
BUT If that works for you, why not enjoy it? Funny when some negative comments come from people who don't play live.

As the status of a 'dj', I would rather be an artist than an entertainer. I would rather go to a concert, a live set or gig rather than to a circus. Where's the limit? Is djing with your nipples out ok? dressed like nurse? Magician DJ? (all the following is real actually)
    Latest mix

There’s also an almost hermetic community that exists in many areas of dance music, where serious hobbyists feed off each other’s expertise but barely connect to the industry – despite many of those involved actually working in it.

Having shown Otacon up as the blatant hypocrite that he is, my actual opinion is that this shows exactly how far behind the rest of the world the US is in terms of electronic dance music. This is like Altern-8's masks but with the benefit of 20 years worth of LED development, something that would only be worn as a tribute to the early rave days or as a joke. I don't know of any djs who would consider wearing something like this, except maybe at a Halloween fancy dress gig or something.
