I actually utilized this same "gated scratching" technique in one of my recent videos and got ripped to shreds by some purist turntablists so I know how it feels (SKIP TO 1:47 for fake scratching) :

I think its just another tool to add to your performance. I can't imagine cue point juggling with two vinyls.

And that is surely the case ... so I don't really see the problem. I have NEVER experienced a negative remark from anyone live. I think people are a lot more witty and ballsy on these forums. I ALWAYS get PROPS from DJ's and guys who are in the know about controllerism and what not. And I'll say it again ... I think it's because my focus lays primarily on strong TRACK SELECTION and smooth / exciting transitions ... as opposed tricks like this ... which I easily have 20 more of (other "tricks" / stunts)

I've ONLY experienced negativity HERE! I don't understand why people who already know how to "scratch like a BOSS" would click the post! THEN disregard the original posters CRYSTAL CLEAR reasoning behind the video and the effect.

BUT ... thanks to the title I strategically selected ... My Youtube vid has several hundred views in no time!

Keith ... that's how I feel about it. Honestly.

With 10+ years of pursuing record production ... I went through a purist phase where I rarely sampled, wouldn't use loops, hated on the warpers and their clever mashup titles ... just got kind of snobby about it .. because I had to solve a lot of problems on my own, then watch a year later software would come out that solved your problem automatically.

I was stubborn to acknowledge / accept the newer / smarter tools. But all that negative energy did was hinder my growth and isolate me as producer. I got over it fairly quickly ... have learned to focus on MY goals ... and to just out grind anyone in my way. Been having some of the most rewarding experiences with my music EVER SINCE!

Thank you for the reply, Keith!

Thanks, I guess, DJ Sour Grapes. But I'll choose to regard the the 6 or 7 encouraging peoples opinion as opposed to yours.

Have fun doing what you do, as well!

Whatever it is ... I just see a list of gear in your signature and a pile of posts. Hopefully you leave the bedroom with those gaudy 1200's. I would LOVE to check out a video of you showing me how YOU roll. I guarantee ... my comments would surely be supportive unless you are just mind blowingly WHACK. I support ALL ARTISTS AND THEIR EFFORTS. No matter the thresholds that exist for them.

I can't wait to blog my experience this season ... I look forward to your negativity and critique! It makes me better.

Being as (I assume) you already "scratch like BOSS" ... I'm honored that you would watch my Youtube video! I need all the views I can get! Thumbs down it while you're over there ... I enjoy and will require negative publicity, as well!

    BIG UPS! KEEP GRINDING, BABY!

Hey good stuff I've noticed the same thing as you when playing out no one cares what equipment you are using as long as you are rocking the party and the ladies are dancing everyone is happy. I applaud your use o technology...I don't understand these purists. And don't get me wrong I admire what they do and respect there discipline and what they can do with turntables.

For sure ... I tried to convey as quickly as possible my respect for the art ... and that I FEEL the technique is a little cheesy ... but sounds good ... again to me! It's still not enough.

Option 1 (best for them) is to overlook a post that contains content that you think is whack ...

Option 2 (somewhat common) a good open minded assessment of your post and a down to earth response be it supportive or non.

Option 3 (very common) a belittling or sarcastic response .. as they bring up points that you've already assessed and expressed your reasoning concerning those point that lead you to your opinion or belief ... I'm like "did you even read what I wrote"?

I get somewhat emotional when I have to repeat myself ... because someone ignorantly or due to their emotions ... will not acknowledge points that I've already mentioned.

But it's like you said ... Get the ladies dancing and it's alllll good. You'll get call backs and love until that stops.

    Thanks for the reply, mdubs!!
