Personally, I think the MF3D will take the place of the Classic and they won't restrict themselves to a facelift. Button grid + XY pad is a really expressive combo without the need of waving gear around (I use Maschine + iPad to achieve this)
Disclaimer: I don't have any inside info, just speculating and giving my personal opinion.
If they don't build an xy controller and if anyone could let me know what kind of parts and such I would need to purchase (I haven't found a nice xy pad for sale), and could coach me through the build that would be very helpful. I'm interested in building a prototype
