Yeah I totally understand. I was more responding to the claim that it shouldn't cost more than $20 which is crazy.

When you factor in the Engineer, Shop overheads, 1-2 hours of labour and materials its not extortion. Sure its not a job you "need" a fully qualified engineer for but he was the guy who did the repairs, so it was going to be the same hourly fee to recondition a Vintage Hammond as to re-cable a turntable.

Of course if its an individual doing it as an odd job chopping a 2m cable in half and soldering it in I'd say 40-50 bucks is fair to get the pair in tip top shape again.

And I'd get both of them done BTW generally when one cable fails the other is not far behind.

Also labour is generally charged "per hour or part thereof"
I know how labor is charged. But there is absolutely no reason why you should be charging more than a mechanic for something so simple.

    1) It doesn't take 1-2 hours to do it. I can probably do it in under 30 minutes, and I'm an amateur solderer.
    2) I said 70 dollars for labor is way too much. If it's factoring in the new cable, it may or may not be worth it depending on the cable that is being used with the table.
    3) If it's your top technician working on it, he should be able to get it done all the faster. I can do it in 30, he should be able to do it in 15-20. Even if you're charging 80 dollars an hour, you should have that RCA done for 20 bucks in labor costs.

Do you do this for a living? Because right now, people are arguing that you should actually charge them MORE. Clearly the market is willing to pay more than you think it's worth, and the market decides. Maybe you should increase your rates.

No, I just know how to use a soldering iron. If someone wants to pay me 350 dollars for a working SL1200 MK2, I'll send it out tomorrow first thing in the morning. I'll also be more than happy to solder on some RCA cables for 30 bucks...

Any of you who are set on paying $500 per deck PM me. I can part with a few. I have some killer customs if you want them. $2500 for the pair. M3Ds with built in dicers, custom paint on the decks and tone arms and completely rebuilt.

Fact of the matter is, you idiots are the reason they cost so much. A set of M3Ds shouldn't cost you more than $500. PERIOD.

If you think otherwise, like I said, PM me.

You've obviously never been in charge of pricing repairs or labor rates.
