BBB used to be pretty popular in the states and still spins quite a bit. Same with DJ Dan. I think the music just seemed harder cause the mixes had 50-70 tracks and were pitched way up to the 140bpms lol.

They both were pretty hard but no way was it hard house. Hard house to me is almost hardstyle. ugh.

    It's all relative honestly.
The DJ's that I know who, like me play a lot of disco would strongly disagree that funky house and disco house are the same or even similar.

As for 140bpm - the mind boggles.

Hard style is more like gabber and hard trance IMO

Maybe it's an early US rave thing? When I'd go to parties in the late 90s they would always call that stuff disco house. faster, upbeat, lots of samples.
Armand Van Helden type tunes. Funky/DIsco House. Then it sort of gave way to "electro house" djs. Not quite hard house though.

nudisco slow chugging music relatively new. No one was playing this in the 90s. It would have just been called disco probably then.

This thread is a perfect example why (sub)genres are useless.

I started the thread to get an idea of what to play for an upcoming gig. Kinda went to shit, but still a fun read.

Yeah, I perfectly understand, I wasn't trying to attack you for making the thread or anything! It's just that everyone always has different definitions for different genres, so in your case, I'd just ask the promoters for some examples of tunes that they like or guidelines, e.g. "light housey stuff in the 120-125bpm range".

I've the same experience in the 90s. Now would the mushroom jazz stuff of that era get labeled as indie dance/nu disco? Anywho, people in ATL would show up for "disco house" parties in roller skates (or blades) and UFOs and dance to DJ Dan type of house during the peak hours. However the vibe was much funkier and chill in the early evening.

that sounds awesome. Always wanted to do a rave in this amazing roller skate park we had here but the owner woulnd't go for it. They would only play latin freestyle and late 80s hip hop. Still pretty fun for a teenager. lol
