Yep, doesn't surprise me that Pioneer are abusing their position to get others to submit to using their equipment by making things difficult.
With regards to the original post... this really was not a problem that Rane/Serato/Pioneer introduced... it was Apple.
They changed the way that USB functioned within the OS itself, and this broke many, many devices, particularly ones that relied on the class compliant drivers within the OS.
My beautiful Rane MP-2015 mixer was not usable with USB for months. I had to resort to only playing off USB sticks with my (now sold) CDJ's.
There is light at the end of the tunnel... Apple has fixed the issue, but it's currently still in Beta. I've installed the latest OS X Beta (I'm a developer, so have access to their Beta program), and indeed, the USB issue is fixed.
This was the most ridiculous upgrade experience I've ever had with El Capitan. Not only did USB audio break, but my previously working 4K monitors starting having all sorts of issues. That issue was finally resolved about a month ago, but I got sick of waiting for the USB fix so installed the Beta on my DJ Macbook.
I think going forward I won't be upgrading my OS until a good 6 months after a new one is released to let it bake. I deal with software all day for my day job, I don't want to futz around with another companies bugs at home.
this whole thing was so stupid. he was bitching about Pioneer releasing a statement that their early testing of unreleased OSX beta software was not showing to be compatible with Serato Pioneer gear.
and what do you know, not even 24 hours after ill.gates posted this rant against Pioneer, Serato released an update for their software and it was fixed. This version of OSX isn't even released yet, or even announced when it's supposed to be released.
Further more, he uses Serato video to do scratching with his videos on CDJ's. He says he's researched other ways to control video without serato but hasn't found one that works. I don't think he's looked hard enough as there are many industry professionals who use timecode video.
If he wanted to make sure his setup is serato compatible, switch to the DJM-S9 instead of a DJM900 on your rider to avoid promoters grabbing the NXS2 until serato makes it compatible

Yep, such as Mixvibes Cross - I use timecode vinyl/cds and it works with my DJM 900 fine and controls video too, and CDJs in HID.
One price, no paid upgrades for video, no paid 'Club Kit' upgrade to work with soundcards, and syncs with rekordbox and with my XDJ controller too.
It's a shame more people don't seem to know of it or check it out
