    ...

betacam has no soul. Electric guitars, virtual synths and colour vga display neither.

"Da real hee haap" is only 8bits and technology is for dumbs...

mmm... wait a momment? Are we at djtechtools or Skratchworx/Serato forums?

Soul is not about technology, is about human machine relationship. Midi fighters have soul and if you continue bitching them Chuck will came to kill you.

Turntablism requires a certain set of Motor skills and DMC is Turntablism

Controllerism skips all those Motor skills in a MASSIVE way ! if you think about it !

You could in theory still use a dvs but you could only be on absolute mode no loops or effects or sod all !

BUT its DMC !!!! 2 techs and a mixer

HIP-HOP is about soul! you've noted this as well, that modern "rap" is crap. why? NO SOUL!

and yes, I know quite well how long it takes to learn to do this stuff.

and yes, often it is boring,. I can browse through youtube and in twenty minutes see videos of either the same people doing the same tricks, OR some kid in his room doing just as good.

I think you know all to well what I'm talking about with these competitions. Long segments of scratching that are impressive, but they dam sure ain't funky. If it don't make you're head nod, it ain't hip hop, simple as that.
I totally agree, for me most of the best rap music, beats and breaks are all full funk and soul. My point was really since when was hip hop "BATTLES" about soul, there's a big clue there in the word battle itself. Thanks to teams like C2C there's a lot more musicality (funky, soulful or whatever style) to be found in the team routines, but the solo sets have always been about six minutes of show boating the dj's very best turntablist skills, there not trying to make people dance. The rest of your argument (and mine) is really subjective to personal taste. It's down to the ear of the beholder.

With respect dude that is absolute utter nonsense.

Hip Hop isnt just about the records. Its about many many things. One of them is Scratch Routines and turntablism. You dont have to be able to dance to it fo it to be hip hop. It can just be mind bendingly clever and inventive and it is still hip hop. An element of hip hop.

The DMC is one of the purest elements of Hip Hop. Saying it aint hip hop is like saying Graffiti isnt hiphop.

    Jus sayin'
