I completely disagree. Online piracy has reduced retail sales and has already caused record labels to restructure the kind of contracts they offer artists. Live performances are seen as the place to make money, not record sales. If you're somebody like a producer or something like that and you don't perform live... You probably aren't going to make a lot of money.
Know what though? The entire music industry is wack. They need some major restructuring, imagine a day when 75% of the top 40 don't suck and artists don't need to sell their soul to get a song played in the club.
I have tried youtube rips before and they suck. Problem is you can find anything you want FAST on youtube, A new acapella, instrumental, or remix. Seems like they are all on there before anywhere. I wish they had a site with the library size of youtube. Now I would pay for that.
ok here is my problem with piracy. If you download it to your computer it's illegal. But you can get on youtube, buffer the whole video or song and watch it any time you want. You can see any video you want and you dont have to waste any hard drive space to have it. Makes no sense.
but there are ads in your face paying for it.
why cant i spray pain my message on a wall, no mater how artistic, but mcdonalds can put a giant billboard on the side of a highway advertising harmful foods
all the tager did was put up his name, all shepard fairey did was print some stickers as a joke.
money. thats all.
As DJs, music enthusiast, we should support the music industry. When it comes to the argument of Piracy is right or wrong I saw it's wrong if your pirating instead of buying, meaning you should only pirate if you can't afford to buy.
I personally have disposable income, so I buy music.

This song jams too!!!
If it was available I would download it on zippy. Well maybe I would pay .99 on Itunes
I agree. If I liked a track I would download it on a blog. If the same guy was playing on at a club I'd pay 50-100 to see him play. Done it plenty of times at clubs in Miami. I think the blogs and pirate downloads are a great way to gain exposure as an artist. As a DJ i use tons of tools to get music....beatport, itunes, blogs, subsciption pools, zippyshare, you name it. And if I jam out at a club to Bigbeatz track then I think I just provided some good marketing for him and now his stock just went up.

I dj sometimes at ethnic parties and I use to play some strange musics from almost everywhere in the world. I don't rip youtube and I don't play youtube rips but I won't spit in the soup, some famous dj from this scene (Dj /Rupture for example) play some Algerian cassette rips sometimes so I won't talk too fast about peruvian mountain music haha
