I have gone from the s4 to an external mixer w/ 2 X1's and based on sound and feel its worth it- at least being played through my monitors. I would imagine, gig/club wise, there is nothing 2 (maybe even 1) x1, a soundcard, and a proper mixer can't accomplish.

    Cheers folks

will look for that thread keeb.

DarioJ how do you have your decks and channels routed?

    i was thinking

    Deck a to ch 1
    Deck b to ch 2
    decks c and d(sample decks)to ch 3
With last ch 4 used to preview/listen to tracks n samples.

    What do you reckon?

    Cheers again folks

That's the one. Wicked having a preview channel. I got s2 but my preferred set up at mo is x1, audio 10, 4 channel mixer and that's my set up ^^

S2 and internal is good too mind but I am now convinced there's something to be said for external

Trying to do this without spending to much money.
gonna swap my xone 22 for a djm500 with a mate. do you think it's a good deal?
Looking at getting the reloop contour interface edition controller for the sound card and controller, what do you think? don't want to spend loads on an audio 8/10 plus a x1 and find it's not what i like. i already have a x1. or was thinking of the esi gigaport hd sound card and another x1? what do you reckon. all help is greatly appreciated. i am losing sleep over this. tryna not give in to RGAS!

I have them set up in a linear fashion 1234/ABCD and I am currently using the the X1's as:
    A-B-C (dulicating deck)- D (samples)

Might not be the best way to preview songs but I usually just drop the track into the deck so I can beatjump or hotcue through it.

I will however be trying to map the X1's to work in 1 of 2 fashions:

    1. Native mapping w/ C-A-B-D, cause having 2 consecutive decks on the same X1 does not work well with my workflow.

    2. S4 style mapping w C-A-B-D. I hate layers, but for me, having hotcues on the underlining layer sucks. I am planning on splitting and flipping the X1 to work into deck layers. The inner half of the X1 would be the native function- browse, loop, load. While the outer half of the X1 will be full transport, beat jump (encoders), hotcues... ie; the first layer is A and the hotcue layer is C. Hopefully TP2.5 gives native support to the X1 in respects to sample decks as this mapping would give you 8 knobs, 28 buttons and 4 encoders before the shift function.

In my head this works out perfectly for my workflow , but well see. lol.

If you are a club DJ, it's always external. Clubs have their own mixers installed already and usually won't have room for a large controller next to it.

In a club setting how do you go about setting up a soundcard to the house equipment? Do you have to get there before the venue opens? Do it in between sets? Always wondered what is the "right" way of doing this.

Most people I've seen it just do it in the 15 mins before they perform. Just gotta make sure you understand the tech well enough to know how to do and it and how to put everything back the way you found it.
