You didn't piss anyone off. I simply disagree with you. I don't know Endo at all, but what I see is one person contributing to the DJ community, and a bunch of negative criticism coming from people who haven't. I have always been a put up or shut up kind of guy. Endo and/or Dubspot took some time out of the day to make a video, and that video was largely educational. It may suggest to people different ways of using pieces of kit, or point them down the path of making macros.I am very sorry to have pissed you off, as it was not intentional...
Workflow is a highly personal thing, and everyone sees equipment functionality differently. What's not logical for one person is very logical for another. Some users see value in reducing their kit to the bare minimum, while others feel limited by compact setups or dislike modality. There isn't a right or wrong here. To imply that there is, or that someone should be using their equipment in a different (better) way is to ignore those facts.
Let me leave with this. If I posted a thread in this forum saying that I saw you perform live and thought you could have done a lot better than you did, wouldn't you take that as negative? How about if you found out about me saying it behind your back?
Just something to think about.
Frankly, if NI sent me all that gear and said they'd give me all of it (or give me a huge discount) to make a video with all the gear in use - i'd damn sure do it. And I am pretty sure most of you, if not all of you would do it as well.
Or it could be constructive criticism. In many arenas, judges or "experts" are not always the top of their class in comparison to the individual performing. Take many judged sporting events for example, X-Games, Gymnastics, etc. Bottom line if you perfrom for an audience expect criticism.
I think especially this being an open forum this is a great discussion. Perhaps it could've been worded "do you think this is too much gear" and received thoughts/feedback from others.
And to be fair to Van, he's posted a few tutorials on youtube and shared them with guys on this forum.
SSL - DJM 800 - Technic 1200's - X1 - ITCH - NS6 - VCI-300
I'll grant you all of that. I found the tone of the thread to be negative when the OP was sharing information. As such, I gave my opinion just like everyone else.Perhaps it could've been worded "do you think this is too much gear" and received thoughts/feedback from others.
...*shrug*
I run two denon DN-SC2000 for two decks of control... I know 1 can do the job, but I prefer not to use the shift.
I also run an X1 for looping, hot-cues, and effect control, and I want to get another one, again so I don't ever have to use shift, everything is on the "top" layer.
I route that out through an Audio 8 into a 4 channel mixer and mix externally.
I have nearly as many redundant control as he does, but the denons are for fine pitch control, like he uses the S4, the X1's have their specific purpose, and the mixer handles what its designed for... mixing.
I just got an APC20 as I'm starting to learn ableton, and I don't see incorporating that into my setup as an ableton controller as an impossibility...
Fortunately everything I mentioned above (minus the APC20) fits in my gig bag, and has been pretty easy to incorporate into many different stage setups.
What I see is a stage full of sexy kit, with every control type anyone could want, all on the top layer of control.
I'm addicted to WoW.
Please do not bother me about being a productive member of society.
