I'm a college student too & in Ireland to make it worse! I know all to well the downsides to having no money but I pre-ordered this as I see it as an investment!
But best of luck finding the right soundcard!
Ive been using this since Christmas and I haven't had any issues

However I have heard about some people having driver issues, this mainly seemed to be an issue with vista and Macs. I have it running on a xp and win7 machine with no issues.
It does run noticeably better the the asio4all v2 audio driver though.

+1 for the Audio 2 DJ. The thing just works. About the size of a pack of cigarettes and is easy to set up. Sold mine and replacing it with an Audio 4 for timecode possibilities. If you don't plan to use Turntables and Timecode the Audio2DJ is probably the best value for money and very portable.

I need another soundcard (preferably cheaper) as a backup to my Audio 8 DJ so I guess with all that's said, the Audio 2 DJ's the best solution, huh?
Know thy music ...
I was under the impression the headphone was direct monitor of the input only, is it set as a separate stereo channel ?I used to use a M-Audio Fast Track USB for recording only, but about 2 years ago I started using it (for about a year) for Dj purposes, the quality is pretty good, and the price isn't too high.
P.S. I bought a Numark I/O, which sounds fantastic TBH, but finding a severe lack of headphone volume in Ableton and there is no volume control though its own cpanel or Aggregate possibility.
