I like the track you posted, think I've heard Kissy Sell Out playing it recently.

I think the 'harder' style of Moombahton (like that one, and some of Dillon Francis's stuff) is usually called Moombahcore, and it seems to be based more around dubstep and d&b basslines as opposed to dutch house stuff. I like some of it, but some is too much... like this:

This was a harsh choice for me. Went with nutmeg in the end due to youth memories (certainly no good ones ) attached to it....

After listening to some of these links this genre kinda confuses me, Super Drunk was like slow fucked up regge-electro, the Toddla track is basically a slow hybrid dubstep-electro without being as hard as dubstep, but the Frank Grimes track to me is more in line with trip-hop than anything (actually a really good track)

its not bad stuff but the drug of choice is def weed on this one, im not sure what else would work in this situation :P Do many people actually play this in clubs tho? It seems way too slow to get in to for my taste.

As it so happens one of my buddies on facebook posted this link about Moombahton, what it is etc, in fact he's mentioned in the link, he's one 1/2 of "Torro, torro":

i generally boof a couple cans of computer duster before listening to moombahton.

but in all semi-seriousness, it's not a genre that everyone is going to like. hell, i was not a fan of moombahton at all when i first heard it about a year ago, then i heard the munchi remix of datsik's firepower and masta blasta by dillon francis and suddenly i couldn't get enough of it.

i see the trend of moombahton being a little similar to that of mashups. a couple big producers and some talented people who were previously unknown release some good tracks and generate some buzz about the genre, it starts to pick up steam until it's suddenly very popular, then a ton of subpar producers jump on the train and flood the market with crappy songs and lots of people are introduced to the genre through shitty tracks. kind of unfortunate because many of those who have some serious talent who get into the game as it starts gaining popularity get drowned out by the sheer volume of crap that's out there. i'm hesistant to go beyond the producers that i know in the genre because i've mostly been disappointed lately.

i'll never be disappointed if someone drops this track though.

Eh, I can dig it. I don't think I could do a whole 60 minute mix of just Moombahton but I like when it's thrown into the middle of sets for a nice break from the heavy beats.

i've checked out some of the examples in this thread of 'good stuff' from the fans in this thread... still not swayed.

i could see how it could be good if it was in the hands of an excellent producer, but can't say i've heard it yet.

just to clarify, i don't hate moombahton - i just don't get the hype, people making it out to be the new big deal in dance. would love to be proved wrong by anybody who wants to show me really really good moombahton.
