he explains that the reason for using the pitch-fader-only technique is due to the first decks he had being belt drive and so pretty much unusable if he touched the platter. some of the first ones i learned on were a friends belt drive tho - and i found they were ok so long as u have a really light touch and decent slipmats.

i would always touch the platter - tho also usually go quite mad with the pitch fader if i couldnt hear the timings

he can obviously use that technique to beat match pretty fecking quickly - but different methods work best for different people and all that...

Well, I like the fader only method as it allows me to ride the pitch with one hand while working the mixer. I'll nudge the labels here and there in quieter parts so you can't tell as much. All different tools depending on the situation

Oh that dude? I seriously don't understand the hype. He just rambles on for ages about completely useless crap.

Millions of videos on how to beat match (for different genres and different equipment. what?) and "reviews" where he just points at things on the product and reads the label.

I always touch the platter, and sometimes I use the pitchfader, in my opinion using the pitchfader to correct the tempo is super handy, but also super risky (I mean like nudging the track up and down for a few seconds to correct it's tempo when it's being mixed with another record).

And about the video; I really dont like this way of beatmatching...

If you can learn to ride the pitch you'll be an unbeatable DJ on Any equipment.

Vinyl is the best way to learn it imho.

Teaches you the basics but also the master craft. Digital DJing is all about taking simple things and blowing them apart. If you get the core down with Vinyl it will make you appreciate mixing alot more than on any Digital medium.

I love throwing down some vinyl mixes every now & then. Its amazingly easy & so much more fun than any controller even though your doing simpler techniques, when you get it locked & mixed in there's no other feeling like it.

7yrs on & I'm just getting into scratching... ITS AWESOME... Don't miss out...

    Peace

p.s DVS is as good as Vinyl, especially Tsp, Serato, Mixvibes & Torq

LOL, ellaskins is bloody useless he played between bands at a local festival down here had the pioneer DVD mixing setup and all he did was trainwreck "mash-ups" of tom jones and shit house beats ... Really dont understand the hype .

As for the beatmatching debate surely as DJ`s we should just use whatever technology is available to us. Many of us have different skill sets through coming into djing at different times. I absolutely hate mixxing on CDJ`s but love mixxing on vinyl and love gettign creative with controllers. But i learnt to beatmatch with vinyl when if you couldnt beat match you couldnt DJ, now a days with all the technology being a DJ is so much more about how you select your tunes and showcase them .

personally i like his videos. sure he never goes into all that much depth but i reckon he's very good at introducing new people to various aspects of dj'ing etc.

    He just mumbles on forever.

Never actually says anything that would help anybody. Ever.
