I got into djing when I was 17 (2002). My brother had a pair of 1200's
that I would practice on secretly while he was at work. I'm
from Texas so I was naturally influenced by dj's like Screw and
Mike Watts. My sister got me hooked on BadBoyBill, Crystal Method, DaftPunk,
Bassnectar and Moby. When my brother moved away he took the 1200's so
I got a pair of used cdj1000's off ebay and a new Korg 4 channel mixer.
I was mainly self taught bc I'm from a small city with no "real" dj's.
Beatmatching and mixing in general came to me naturally bc I grew up
playing drums and took several classes on music composition and arrangement.
Youtube came out later and I was able to pick up different techniques and styles.
I've been hooked since, playing clubs around town and making mix cd's.

pushed buttons, moved faders, and turned some knobs until it started to sound good.

I originally started because I wanted to produce music and instead of just putting it on the net I want to see people smile and dance to it. I don't find DJing as much fun as producing but I bloody love it when I'm playing decent tunes. I just watched a few youtube videos and practiced in my room.

    Default Where do I start?

I have been involved with music as far back as I can remember, from singing, dancing and playing instruments. I started engineering with the sound director from my church when I was a kid (still doing it). From running cable to controlling the mixer (Still had VUE meters back then). Started making mix tapes of the music I liked etc just to listen to and play around with. Took studio engineering classes in college (which got me studio time), bought my first stereo system and a couple of CD players and away we went. Did parties for friends at school and at church, no serious skills involved since I did not have the gear to do all DJ's really do, just made sure the music did not stop til the party was over. Finally last year I got my first pieces of "real" gear and started learning everything else I couldn't before. Since it doesn't pay the bills it has been slow going. Most of my experience has been on the recording, live sound tech and editing side of the desk, (especially the last two). The jobs that pay the bills is teaching and personal cheffing so time is still limited, but will be making a go at getting better. I have friends who DJ for a living and they have allowed me to tag along when I can which helps.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!
