New dilemma. Do I buy a standard VCI-400 for $999, wait for EG firmware/overlay/tsi file and upgrade to the EG edition for $99, having the VCI look stock with some red accents and stock looks.

Or do I pre-order the EG edition, lose the stock knobs and vdj LE software for the black sync/load section and completely different look of the EG edition?

It would be nice if the EG edition gave you all of the stock hardware as a backup but from what I have read, you lose the stock knobs and software.

    Whats your take on this?

I was in a similar situation. Almost bought the 400 from Musicians Friend as they often have 15% off coupons. But I really wanted something that was support and made locally, plus a slight limited edition was cool. I honestly didn't like Virtual DJ LE (haven't played with pro) but I think most people on this board really use either Serato or Traktor so it's not a big deal.

I already have Traktor 2 LE and will be making the upgrade so it's not as painful.

Unfortunately I am in Canada. By the time I get it up here and pay the $1099, plus duties, taxes, fees and anything else they charge me It will be closer to $1300-$1400. I love the look of it but I am very confused as I am not sure what the overlay will look like for the $99 upgrade. Is it worth the extra $200 to get rid of the red section where the load/sync buttons are for permanent black plastic?

Any thoughts? As I am sure the upgrade will be a sticker and not an actual replacement of these pieces.

I just purchased Traktor Pro 2 two days ago and have been playing with it and it is an absolutely amazing DJ software, alot of stuff to help fulfill all of your creative needs. Not sure how the vdj works or compared to Traktor Pro 2 but if you do plan to purchase the EG VCI 400 SE, I think you will be more than happy running TP2 with the controller. I am currently operating Traktor Pro 2 with the keyboard cover and just that little difference has already allow me to speed up the learning curve on the software. I can't wait to get the EG controller and with TP2...what a power house combination. Best of luck to you.

Wow I really want this! I could probably afford it... But to get it in into the UK would cost me an arm and a leg. Anybody have any hints or tips about importing? Cheers.

Well, i just brought one unit of the special edition and got me thinking about everything that was said here about what comes with it.

In my honest opinion, it would't be fair if it doesn't come with the overlays, the cd etc. I think that even the fact that you are not able to choose the colors of the Chroma Caps (you're paying for them) is not a good point, but... maybe i could accept that for the awesome mapping.

But when you notice that at a regular store the price is about $999 and DJTT are going to sell a separated kit including a firmware update, tsi file and chroma caps (that you can choose the color you want) for $99, maybe that is a better choice than buying in DJTT store without a lot o things that come in the original package.

I'm just waiting an official pronunciation of DJTT telling us what comes in the package.

I guess I'm confused as to why anyone would buy this special edition to use with anything but Traktor Pro 2...so I don't get the concern about the included software. All of the customizations to this one are specifically for TP2...and won't make a bit of difference when using another program.

Well. I guess it's basically because people don't use ONLY traktor pro 2. Even it being the main software would be nice play a little in ableton live for a bit. But i agree that the fun its to use the Special Edition on Traktor!
