Yeah honestly dude, get over yourself, as if you've never said 'oh I hate that track why the hell is he playing it it's so old!'

Just let people vent if they want to, if you don't want to, no need to read the thread.

    +1 googol!!

The "techno" equivalent of the pop music industry's auto-tune vocoder effect.

This is true if you're a working DJ. If that's the case then just bite the bullet, play the tunes they want to hear and get your pay cheque.

I would never sell myself short by playing something I wouldn't want to (more likely than not I don't even have the tune). I still get consistent gigs and offers to play around by staying true to myself and not selling out.

My secret plan is foiled! Now I'll NEVER make the "ULTIM4TE PARTY MIX"!

But seriously, thanks everyone for responding. Though that one guy is right, we ARE playing for the crowd, but when you're watching someone else DJ, how can you not say "ew, why is he playing that?"

I agree SO much, especially with Basshunter... makes my ears bleed...
In general I agree though, as long as it's not totally lame, just play it...

Most of the songs you've mentioned here are songs that I find rather cool. There's a reason for them to be played out and that's beacuse they f*cking rawk! Nothing gets the party going better than a well dropped MGMT-Kids (Soulwax remix) or the AC Slater remix of Show me love, the first hint of the vocals drive people crazy.

The non-mainstream club crowd is no different from the TOP 40 places, people still like to dance to music they have heard before. In Finland most of the people went wtf when MSTRKRFT played Baqstarrs - Hands up thumbs down (HPP remix), most of them had probably thought they were going to play Bounce about 40 Times.
